Proverbs 19:11 NLT
Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.
Anger is a very damaging emotion.
James 1:19-20 NLT
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.
When do we find ourselves getting angry most of the time?
Isn’t it related to something not going our way? The way we think it should go?
One of the Spirit’s fruits is “self-control,” wouldn’t it make sense that we can go from calm to anger in a minute that there may be something going on that we may want to address.
For me, I used to wield my anger like a weapon to control those around me. For some reason, I thought that this would give me control over my environment.
But what I have found is that it separated me from those close to me, and I am thankful for God’s grace because He can repair broken situations and make them right.
But how is it that when we control our temper that we earn respect? Especially in a world that seems to be so bent on revenge and getting even with those who have offended you?
My experience is when I take time to listen and understand what is going on before I start offering my suggestions, I am finding that it resolves itself most of the time without me.
It is also interesting that people will now bring more issues to me, allowing me more opportunities to help.
I think this is where the earning respect part comes in.
Psalm 86:5 NLT
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the work You are doing in my heart.
Thank You for Your Word; You promise that it will not return void, and Your Word will always return and answer.
I pray, Lord, that You continue to use my life in a way that points back to You and what You can do in a life submitted to You.
I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!! 🙏❤️
