‘ “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. ‘ Matthew 7:13-14
Some verses in the Bible bring me chills regarding the straight message that comes from the verse. This is one of them. This post is one of a series focused on the Sermon of the Mount, the greatest sermon ever preached. Here is a link to the rest of the post in this series:
One of the questions that will come up about going to heaven is, “Why is Jesus the only way to heaven?”
This is what today’s verses reference. “Enter through the narrow gate.” Jesus is referring to Himself as the narrow gate.
He is the way to eternal life. Please don’t make any mistake about this; our physical bodies will break down as we grow older, and our physical presence will no longer be on this earth, but our souls will live on forever.
Our souls will live in one of two places:
- In the presence of God for eternity
- In hell, separated from God for eternity
And God will provide us an opportunity to accept the sacrifice that He made through His Son, Jesus Christ. And this is a choice that He wants us to make willingly.
What gives me chills about this verse is that it says, “only a few will find it.”
That means that there are those I walk around daily who will not choose to accept the grace that God has provided. This includes family members, co-workers, and acquaintances. And the reality is, there is nothing that I can do about it. In the end, this choice comes between them and God.
The only thing that I can do is share my testimony with them. I can share my story about my life before I knew Jesus and now. I can live my life in a manner that exemplifies what I believe in my faith. Paul gives us a little insight into where our hearts should be with those who do not know Jesus:
‘And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.’ 2 Timothy 2:24-26
Let’s return to the question, “Why is Jesus the only way?”
‘Jesus answered, “I am the way, truth, and life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ‘ John 14:6
Jesus was sent to earth for a purpose. God sent Him to earth to die for the sins of the world. He was the reflection of God in human form. He was the sacrifice that was necessary to allow us to reconnect with God.
‘My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. ‘ 1 John 2:1-2
It is because of His sacrifice that makes Him the only way to God.
Everyone born on the earth will have the opportunity while breathing to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
There will be no one in hell who has not made the conscious choice to be there.
My prayer for everyone who reads this post is that they make their hearts right with God by accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Heavenly Father, I pray for the lives of those around me and for whoever will read this post. I pray that You provide them the faith to accept Jesus into their lives.
I pray that they will glorify You through their lives when they accept the love that You provided through Jesus.
I thank You for Your love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
I am grateful for Your provision and pray that You give me the desire to be a good steward with all You have provided.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!! 🙏❤️
