The miracles of Jesus were never just physical acts—they were declarations of war on the kingdom of darkness.
In Matthew 9:32–34, Jesus sets a man free from demonic possession and restores his ability to speak. The crowd is stunned. The religious elite are offended.
And through it all, Jesus remains undeterred.
Who Is Jesus Interacting With?
- A mute man, demon-possessed and voiceless.
- The crowds were witnesses to His power.
- The Pharisees, hardened critics bent on discrediting Him.
What Jesus Did: Matthew 9:32–34 (NASB)
32 Now as they were going out, behold, a demon-possessed man who was unable to speak was brought to Him. 33 And after the demon was cast out, the man who was previously unable to speak talked; and the crowds were amazed, and were saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!” 34 But the Pharisees were saying, “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”
The Mood of the Scene
- Tension rising.
- Freedom for the man.
- Faith from the crowd.
- Fury from the Pharisees.
It’s a moment where light drives out darkness, and not everyone rejoices.
The Miracle: The Mute Speaks!
One moment, he’s voiceless.
Next, he’s free and speaking.
Jesus doesn’t argue, explain, or delay.
He casts the demon out, restoring what evil had stolen.
Action Step: Where has the enemy silenced your voice? Ask Jesus to remove anything that’s keeping you from expressing your God-given purpose.
The Response: Amazed Crowd vs. Accusing Pharisees
The people marvel:
“Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
But the Pharisees refuse to see the miracle for what it is.
They accuse Jesus of operating by satanic power.
Action Step: In 2025, expect pushback when you move in the Spirit. Some will be amazed, others will criticize. Don’t stop. Speak louder with your life.
What This Means for Us in 2025
In a world increasingly silenced by fear, shame, or spiritual warfare, Jesus is still restoring voices.
And He’s still being misunderstood by religious systems and culture alike.
This passage reminds us:
- Freedom often offends the status quo.
- You’ll never please the crowd and the Pharisees at the same time.
- Jesus still delivers—and His authority is final.
Application for Today:
- Ask Jesus to expose and remove what’s spiritually silencing you.
- Refuse to be ashamed of your testimony—speak up!
- Expect resistance when walking in spiritual authority.
- Stand firm even when accused. Truth speaks louder over time.
- Let your life be a testimony that causes others to say, “Nothing like this has ever been seen.”
Final Prayer
Jesus, I bring to You any area where I feel silenced or bound. Cast out every influence that opposes Your Spirit in my life. I want to walk in boldness, speak with freedom, and live for Your glory—no matter what others say. Let my freedom shine for all to see. Amen.
