Two stories illustrate how Jesus heals and raises the dead.
One Savior.
And a faith that overcomes both delay and despair.
Matthew 9:18–26 shows us that Jesus doesn’t just work in the big, dramatic moments—He also works in the long, hidden suffering. Whether you’ve been bleeding out slowly in life or just hit with devastation, Jesus is still the answer. In every situation, remember how Jesus heals and even raises the dead when faith is present.
Who Is Jesus Interacting With?
- A synagogue leader (Jairus) who humbly begs Jesus to save his daughter.
- A bleeding woman who quietly reaches for Jesus in her shame and sickness.
- Mourners, dismissive of the hope that Jesus brings.
- Jesus’ disciples, following closely.
What Jesus Said: Matthew 9:18–26 (NASB)
18 While He was saying these things to them, behold, a synagogue official came and bowed down before Him, and said, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 Jesus got up from the table and began to accompany him, along with His disciples. 20 And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind Him, and touched the border of His cloak; 21 for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will get well.” 22 But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” And at once the woman was made well. 23 When Jesus came into the official’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder, 24 He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him. 25 But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up. 26 And this news spread throughout that land.
The Woman Who Touched the Cloak
She had suffered for twelve years—financially, physically, emotionally. She believed quietly but fiercely that one touch would heal her.
And she was right.
Action Step: Bring your hidden pain to Jesus. Even if no one else knows, He sees you. Your quiet faith is enough for a powerful breakthrough, demonstrating how Jesus heals those who reach out to Him.
Jairus’ Desperate Faith
Imagine the heartbreak: his daughter had just died. But he believed that if Jesus came and touched her, she would live.
That’s not just belief. That’s resurrection-level faith.
Action Step: Speak life even when the situation looks dead. Invite Jesus into the place where hope has flatlined, just as Jairus saw Jesus raise his daughter among the dead.
The Mood of the Scene
- Intense.
- Crowded.
- Urgent.
- A clash of hope and mockery.
Jesus walks in power and peace, even when the crowd laughs at His promise. He doesn’t react—He removes the noise and releases resurrection, showing how Jesus raises what is dead.
What This Means for Us in 2025
Many are bleeding out silently. Others feel like parts of their life—dreams, relationships, faith—are already dead.
This passage reminds us:
- Jesus is not in a hurry, but He’s never late.
- Faith doesn’t need to be loud—it just needs to reach.
- When the world mourns, Jesus restores.
In 2025, we face noise, doubt, and long battles. Yet Jesus still moves through faith, proving how He heals and raises the dead in every era.
Application for Today:
- Reach out, even in weakness. His power flows where faith touches Him.
- Don’t let delay rob your belief. Keep walking with Jesus.
- Kick out the noise. Create a space of faith, not fear.
- Speak life over what others have declared dead.
- Never stop believing in God’s ability to heal AND resurrect.
Final Prayer
Jesus, I bring You what feels broken, bleeding, or beyond repair. I choose faith over fear, and I reach for Your power today. Whether You come immediately or take me on a journey, I trust You. Thank You for restoring what others say is lost. In Your name, amen.
