1 Timothy 6:4 NLT
Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions.
With everything that is going on in the world, it is no wonder that people can get wrapped up in looking at end time teachings.
We are facing a worldwide pandemic, unlike anything anyone breathing has ever experienced before.
In the US, we have civil unrest that doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
It seems like the weather events are getting more and more intense with every passing year.
So it is understandable how people would turn their focus on teaching about the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Jesus answered this question before He’s crucifixion:
Matthew 24:36 NLT
“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
This type of speculation only gets us to quibble over opinions about when the end is coming, but Jesus is clear when He says, “no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen.”
This type of speculation takes us into arguments over the “thick of thin things.” It takes our attention off of what we should be doing.
So with all of this going on, what is the Christian to do?
Being a Christian, we should be focusing on the needs of those around us and ministering to those needs.
Matthew 22:36-40 NLT
“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
It is easy to get wrapped up in the empty arguments about when the end will be here, but Jesus does not want that for us.
Our calling is to stay focused on what Jesus has called us to do.
Matthew 28:19-20 NLT
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
We do this by studying and meditating on the Word of God and engaging the needs of the people around us; our family, our co-workers, our customers, our neighbors, and our church.
Matthew 24:42-44 NLT
“So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.
We stay ready for His return.
We stay faithful to our calling, making it our primary focus.
And we do our best so that when we wake up in the presence of our Savior, we hear the words:
“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Heavenly Father, I don’t understand what is going on, but You have made it simple for us, love You, and love others.
I pray that I am faithful to Your calling and that You give me the strength and courage to stand firm in Your Word.
I thank You for allowing me to serve those around me, and I pray that my words, attitude, and actions glorify You.
I pray that if I fall short, You pick me up, dust me off and send me back in with a better understanding.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!! 🙏❤️
