‘ “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe. ‘ John 14:27-29
What do you lean on for your peace of mind?
If you are reading this, it is my prayer that you have submitted your heart before Jesus. If not, I pray that the God give you the faith to do so.
The peace we so desperately seek will not come by anything that this world provides. It will only come from a heart submitted to Jesus.
We have a world system that profits from strife in our world. A system that pits one person against another. And the sad part about it is that it has become a sick source of entertainment for many.
But if you are a student of scripture, this should not be a surprise to you. The closer we get to the return of our Lord, the worse this world will get.
We will reach a point where the sound doctrine of the Bible will no longer be tolerated, and people will look for voices that validate their feelings. Our feelings are deceitful at best.
‘For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths. ‘ 2 Timothy 4:3-4
We’ll hear phrases like: “I am going to follow my heart.” or “It just feels right.”
This is what the Bible says about the human heart.
‘“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord , search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” ‘ Jeremiah 17:9-10
Christians are called to subject our thoughts and feelings to God’s Word. In most cases, our first reaction will be to react emotionally, but when we recognize this happening, we should bring these feelings to the Lord and His Word in playful contemplation.
‘We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. ‘ 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
God’s weapon is His Word. When we humbly bring our feelings before the Lord and hold these feelings up to the power of His Word, we will gain that peace that we seek.
We tend to want the world and our circumstances to change, BUT God wants our hearts to change. The world and everything outside our thoughts, actions, and what we say are firmly and securely in God’s hands. God wants our thinking to change.
‘Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. ‘ Romans 12:2
As the world around us starts to devolve, we must keep our focus on where it should be. And this focus should be on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
‘Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” ‘ Hebrews 3:12-15
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and promise.
I pray, Lord, as this world goes the way that You said it would, I ask that You provide us with the ability to keep our minds focused on the coming of our Lord and Savior.
Please help us to be proper witnesses of the miracle of salvation so that our actions, thoughts, and words glorify You in every way.
Thank You for Your grace, mercy and forgiveness.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!! 🙏❤️
