Matthew 26:40-41 NLT
Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
What is Jesus saying here?
“Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.”
What is He saying?
I am coming to believe that what He is saying here is that we need to look at every aspect of our lives through the lens of Jesus Christ.
Not one thought, not one circumstance, not one interaction should be done outside of the Holy standard of Jesus Christ.
The minute we consider a situation outside of this Holy standard, we open ourselves up to temptation.
Thankfully, the Lord will always provide us enough room to escape any temptation that we face.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
This escape will only happen when we refocus our eyes on Jesus. But we are still challenged by our fleshy nature, so if we fall, the next thing we do is to turn back to God, confess, and repent. Pressing into our Lord and Savior and the people of God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unending grace. I pray that You give me the confidence, willingness, and strength to stay in Your will.
I ask for forgiveness, discernment, and chastening in the areas of my life where I struggle and that you open my eyes to these areas far before I enter into its temptation.
I ask You to put others into my life, who will speak boldly into my life, and I ask for the humility of heart to receive this insight and feedback that I may not see in myself.
Thank You for Your never-ending grace, forgiveness, compassion, and willingness to guide me through this life. In the loving name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!! 🙏🏻❤️
