She said, \u201cWith the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.\u201d Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord . And Abel also brought an offering\u2014fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.<\/p><cite><strong>Commentary: The reason the Lord looked with favor at Abel&#8217;s offering is that it was a blood sacrifice. The only acceptable sacrifice is by blood. Cain&#8217;s sacrifice was a result of his labor. (Works)<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Then the Lord said to Cain, \u201cWhy are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.\u201d<\/p><cite><strong>Commentary: &#8220;Downcast&#8221; = Depression. The first mention in the Bible is important. &#8220;If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have, but you must rule over it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reminds me of this verse:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 1 Peter 5:8-9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Now Cain said to his brother Abel, \u201cLet\u2019s go out to the field.\u201d While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Then the Lord said to Cain, \u201cWhere is your brother Abel?\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d he replied. \u201cAm I my brother\u2019s keeper?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The Lord said, \u201cWhat have you done? Listen! Your brother\u2019s blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother\u2019s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.\u201d<\/p><cite><strong>Commentary: &#8220;Your brother&#8217;s blood cries out to me from the ground.&#8221; Jewish tradition is that when you kill one person, you kill every generation that could have come from that person.<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Cain said to the Lord , \u201cMy punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.\u201d<\/p><cite><strong>Commentary: No remorse. Just complaining about the punishment.<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>But the Lord said to him, \u201cNot so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.\u201d Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. So Cain went out from the Lord\u2019s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. His brother\u2019s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes. Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain\u2019s sister was Naamah.<\/p><cite><strong>Commentary: First musicians and advancement in tools being developed.<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Lamech said to his wives, \u201cAdah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me. If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, \u201cGod has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.\u201d Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.
