Instead, He&nbsp;<strong>climbs a mountain<\/strong>, sits down, and begins to teach. What He delivers is unlike anything the world had heard before\u2014a blueprint for blessed living in the Kingdom of Heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This section of Scripture, known as the&nbsp;<strong>Sermon on the Mount<\/strong>, begins with the&nbsp;<strong>Beatitudes<\/strong>, and it still challenges every follower of Jesus today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-jesus-speaking-to\"><strong>Who Is Jesus Speaking To?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cNow when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. And He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying\u2026\u201d <em>(Matthew 5:1\u20132 NASB)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus is addressing a&nbsp;<strong>crowd of disciples and seekers<\/strong>\u2014men and women hungry for truth, healing, and hope. He\u2019s not preaching to the polished. He\u2019s revealing the values of the&nbsp;<strong>Kingdom of Heaven<\/strong>&nbsp;to the broken, the humble, and the willing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-jesus-said-the-beatitudes-matthew-5-3-12-nasb\"><strong>What Jesus Said: The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3\u201312 NASB)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>3<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cBlessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>4<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>5<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are the gentle, for they will inherit the earth.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>6<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>7<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>8<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>9<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>10<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>11<\/strong>&nbsp;Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>12<\/strong>&nbsp;Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\"><strong>What Happened?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus reveals a&nbsp;<strong>radical redefinition of blessing<\/strong>. These are not feel-good verses. They are&nbsp;<strong>transformational truths<\/strong>&nbsp;that challenge pride, ego, and self-reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This wasn\u2019t a list of rules. It was a description of the kind of person&nbsp;<strong>God blesses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mood-of-the-scene\"><strong>Mood of the Scene<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Reflective and reverent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Eye-opening, even disruptive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Hopeful for the hungry, sobering for the proud<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus\u2019 tone wasn\u2019t harsh\u2014but it&nbsp;<strong>cut through the cultural lies<\/strong>&nbsp;of power, prosperity, and religious pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-response-from-the-people\"><strong>Response from the People<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Though not detailed in this section, the response throughout the Sermon on the Mount was <strong>astonishment<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>see Matthew 7:28\u201329<\/strong>). His words had\u00a0<strong>authority<\/strong>, not like the scribes. And they pierced hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Those ready to receive were transformed. Those who preferred control walked away challenged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lessons-from-the-sermon-on-the-mount-beatitudes-for-2025\"><strong>Lessons from the Sermon on the Mount Beatitudes for 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">These Beatitudes are&nbsp;<strong>not suggestions<\/strong>. They are&nbsp;<strong>spiritual realities<\/strong>&nbsp;of the kingdom Jesus brought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In 2025:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">We value self-promotion, but Jesus blesses humility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">We avoid mourning, but Jesus says it leads to comfort.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">We pursue image, but Jesus rewards purity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">We chase comfort, but Jesus honors those persecuted for righteousness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em>Practical Action Steps<strong>:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Embrace Poverty of Spirit<\/strong>Let go of self-sufficiency. Ask God to deepen your dependency on Him daily.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Don\u2019t Avoid Mourning<\/strong>Grieve over sin\u2014yours and the world\u2019s. Let the Spirit bring true comfort.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Practice Mercy Daily<\/strong>Extend grace to someone who doesn\u2019t deserve it. That\u2019s how you receive mercy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pursue Purity of Heart<\/strong>Remove distractions. Seek God with sincerity and single-minded devotion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Stand for Righteousness\u2014Even When It Costs You<\/strong>If you\u2019re mocked for your faith, don\u2019t shrink back. You\u2019re in good company.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-final-prayer\"><strong>Final Prayer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus, thank You for turning the world\u2019s values upside down and revealing the path of true blessing. Help me to live with humility, purity, mercy, and courage. Strengthen me to rejoice even in trials. Let my life reflect the attitudes of Your Kingdom in a world that desperately needs light.
