After all, He\u2019s not teaching like the scribes. His tone is bold, His words are disruptive. So He addresses the elephant in the room:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cIs Jesus against the Law?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The answer?&nbsp;<strong>Absolutely not.<\/strong>&nbsp;In fact, Jesus takes the Law&nbsp;<strong>deeper than ever before<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-jesus-speaking-to\"><strong>Who Is Jesus Speaking To?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Still addressing the disciples and seekers on the hillside, Jesus now turns to the topic of&nbsp;<strong>Scripture, law, and righteousness<\/strong>. These were foundational concepts to His Jewish listeners. What He says next challenges even the most devout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-jesus-said-matthew-5-17-20-nasb\"><strong>What Jesus Said: Matthew 5:17\u201320 (NASB)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>17&nbsp;\u201cDo not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18&nbsp;For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19&nbsp;Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20&nbsp;For I say to you that unless your righteousness far surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-fulfill-mean\"><strong>What Does \u201cFulfill\u201d Mean?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">When Jesus says,&nbsp;<strong>\u201cI came to fulfill the Law,\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;He means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">He\u2019s the&nbsp;<strong>perfect embodiment<\/strong>&nbsp;of every commandment and prophecy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">He completes what the Law pointed to but could never fully accomplish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">He reveals the&nbsp;<strong>spirit behind the letter<\/strong>, calling people to&nbsp;<strong>transformation<\/strong>, not just&nbsp;<strong>compliance<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em><strong>Action Step:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Instead of asking, \u201cHow far can I go without sinning?\u201d ask, \u201cHow closely can I follow Jesus in holiness and love?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-not-one-stroke-will-pass-away\"><strong>Not One Stroke Will Pass Away<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus underscores the&nbsp;<strong>eternal value<\/strong>&nbsp;of God\u2019s Word. Not a single&nbsp;<strong>\u201cjot\u201d or \u201ctittle\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;(the most minor Hebrew marks) will disappear until all is fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This should fuel our reverence for Scripture\u2014not just the parts we like or understand\u2014but&nbsp;<strong>all of it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em><strong>Action Step:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Choose one Old Testament passage this week. Ask God to reveal how Jesus fulfills it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-warning-to-teachers-and-followers\"><strong>A Warning to Teachers and Followers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cWhoever nullifies\u2026 shall be called least\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">but whoever keeps and teaches\u2026 shall be called great\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In 2025, it\u2019s tempting to water down truth for relevance or approval. But Jesus warns against <strong>compromise<\/strong>. Teaching the truth\u2014<strong>all of it<\/strong>\u2014with humility and love matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em><strong>Action Step:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Share one biblical truth this week, even if it\u2019s uncomfortable. Speak it in love and stand firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-surpassing-the-righteousness-of-the-pharisees\"><strong>Surpassing the Righteousness of the Pharisees?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This would\u2019ve shocked Jesus\u2019 audience. The Pharisees were seen as the&nbsp;<strong>religious elite<\/strong>. But Jesus reveals a staggering truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cUnless your righteousness exceeds theirs, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">What does that mean for us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Pharisees obeyed externally but were often&nbsp;<strong>inwardly corrupt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus is saying:&nbsp;<em>Real righteousness starts in the heart.<\/em>&nbsp;It flows from&nbsp;a <strong>relationship<\/strong>, not just rule-following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em><strong>Action Step:<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Ask God to search your heart today. Confess any area where your faith has become performance rather than relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-this-means-for-us-in-2025\"><strong>What This Means for Us in 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In today\u2019s world:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">People often claim Jesus abolished the Law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Grace is misunderstood as permission to live lawlessly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Righteousness is often reduced to a matter of behavior modification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">But Jesus fulfills the Law so that we can live in&nbsp;<strong>Spirit-empowered obedience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Not to earn salvation, but to&nbsp;<strong>reflect the One who saved us<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-practical-applications\"><strong>Practical Applications:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Study both the Old and New Testaments together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Recognize that Jesus didn\u2019t lower the standard\u2014He raised it and met it for us.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Live in gratitude-driven obedience, not guilt-based legalism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-final-prayer\"><strong>Final Prayer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus, thank You for fulfilling the Law I could never fully keep. Thank You for revealing the heart behind every commandment. Help me live with holy reverence, not religious performance. Shape my heart so that my life reflects Your righteousness in every area. I surrender again\u2014deeper this time.
