Some people follow Jesus because they believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others demand proof on their terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Matthew 12:38\u201345<\/strong>, we see the Pharisees and scribes fall into the latter category. They ask Jesus for a sign, but not to grow in faith\u2014rather, to challenge His authority. Jesus responds with a powerful prophetic warning and a lesson that echoes straight into our modern hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 38<\/strong> Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, \u201cTeacher, we want to see a sign from You.\u201d 39<\/strong> But He answered and said to them, \u201cAn evil and adulterous generation craves a sign; and so no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet; 40<\/strong> for just as JONAH was in the stomach of the sea monster for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. 41<\/strong> The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. 42<\/strong> The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. 43<\/strong> \u201cNow when the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. 44<\/strong> Then it says, \u2018I will return to my house from which I came\u2019; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. 45<\/strong> Then it goes and brings along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they come in and live there; and the last condition of that person becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n The religious leaders demand a sign from Jesus\u2014as if all the previous miracles weren\u2019t enough. But Jesus cuts through their hypocrisy and gives them a prophetic word that still shakes us awake today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo sign will be given\u2026 except the sign of Jonah.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n What is that sign?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus wasn\u2019t just foretelling His death and resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He was confronting a hardened generation with their refusal to repent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This was not a warm reply\u2014it was a prophetic rebuke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus doesn\u2019t cater to their demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He points to the one sign<\/strong> that truly matters: the resurrection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is greater than Jonah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Greater than Solomon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Greater than the temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And yet, many missed Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Today, the Spirit of God is moving. The Gospel is being preached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But are we still asking for \u201cmore proof\u201d before we believe or obey?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This generation has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n And yet, many still delay faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is calling us in 2025 to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus, Forgive me for asking for signs when You\u2019ve already given me Yourself. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight. Let my heart be soft to Your voice and quick to repent. Fill my life with Your Word, that I may never be empty again. Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udcd6 Jesus gave us the sign of Jonah\u2014not to entertain our curiosity, but to anchor our faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Let\u2019s not miss what\u2019s right in front of us.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
