In Matthew 13, Jesus begins teaching in parables. The Parable of the Sower<\/strong> is the first, and it lays the foundation for understanding all the rest. This story isn\u2019t just about a farmer and seeds\u2014it\u2019s about you<\/strong> and how you respond to the Word of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1<\/strong>\u00a0On that day Jesus had gone out of the house and was sitting by the sea. 2<\/strong>\u00a0And large crowds gathered to Him, so He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach. 3<\/strong>\u00a0And He told them many things in parables, saying, \u201cBehold, the sower went out to sow; 4<\/strong>\u00a0and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. 5<\/strong>\u00a0Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and they sprang up immediately because they had no depth of soil. 6<\/strong>\u00a0But after the sun rose, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7<\/strong>\u00a0Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. 8<\/strong>\u00a0But others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much. 9<\/strong>\u00a0The one who has ears, let him hear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n 18<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cListen then to the parable of the sower. 19<\/strong>\u00a0When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one sown with seed beside the road. 20<\/strong>\u00a0The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21<\/strong>\u00a0yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the word, immediately he falls away. 22<\/strong>\u00a0And the one sown with seed among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 23<\/strong>\u00a0But the one sown with seed on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Jesus told a parable about a sower scattering seeds. Four types of soil represent the conditions of human hearts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Though simple in form, this parable carries eternal weight. Jesus calls the listener to examine not only what they hear\u2014but how they hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s not the seed that\u2019s the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s the soil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Word of God is perfect, powerful, and life-changing. But our hearts determine the outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2025, when distractions are everywhere and hearts grow hard from busyness, this parable is more urgent than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We are constantly hearing messages\u2014from news, social media, influencers, and marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But are we listening to the Word of the Kingdom<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Are we:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lord, Help me to be good soil. Break up the hard places in my heart, deepen my roots, and remove every thorn that chokes Your Word. Let me hear with faith and obey with courage. Make me fruitful for Your Kingdom, today and always.
