The workers in the vineyard parable is a perfect example of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In this powerful parable, Jesus exposes the hidden pride behind comparison and the generosity at the heart of the Kingdom of Heaven. Through the lens of the workers in the vineyard parable, we see the challenge to our human notions of fairness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-matthew-20-1-16-nasb-2020\"><strong>Matthew 20:1\u201316 (NASB 2020)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>1\u00a0\u201cFor the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2\u00a0When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3\u00a0And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace; 4\u00a0and to those he said, \u2018You go into the vineyard also, and whatever is right, I will give you.\u2019 5\u00a0So they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did the same thing. 6\u00a0And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them, \u2018Why have you been standing here idle all day?\u2019 7\u00a0They said to him, \u2018Because no one hired us.\u2019 He said to them, \u2018You go into the vineyard too.\u2019 8\u00a0Now when evening came, the owner of the vineyard\u00a0<em>said to his foreman,<\/em>\u00a0\u2018Call the laborers and pay them their wages, starting with the last group to the first.\u2019 9\u00a0When those hired about the eleventh hour came, they each received a denarius. 10\u00a0And so when those hired first came, they thought that they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius. 11\u00a0When they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, 12\u00a0saying, \u2018These who were hired last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have burdened the work and the scorching heat of the day.\u2019 13\u00a0But he answered and said to one of them, \u2018Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14\u00a0Take what is yours and go; but I want to give to this last person the same as to you. 15\u00a0Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is my own?
