Is it permissible to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?\u201d 18\u00a0But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, \u201cWhy are you testing Me, you hypocrites? 19\u00a0Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax.\u201d And they brought Him a denarius. 20\u00a0And He\u00a0<em>said to them<\/em>, \u201cWhose image and inscription is this?\u201d 21\u00a0They\u00a0<em>said to Him<\/em>, \u201cCaesar\u2019s.\u201d Then He\u00a0<em>said to them<\/em>, \u201cThen pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar\u2019s; and to God the things that are God\u2019s.\u201d 22\u00a0And hearing this, they were amazed; and they left Him and went away.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-was-jesus-speaking-to\">Who Was Jesus Speaking To?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pharisees and Herodians<\/strong>, who were political and religious opponents, joined forces to trap Jesus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Bystanders<\/strong>, who witnessed His wisdom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Us today<\/strong>, to teach today how to live with discernment in a politically charged world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\">What Happened?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A trap was set using a divisive question: Should Jews pay taxes to a Roman ruler?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">If Jesus said \u201cyes,\u201d He\u2019d lose favor with nationalistic Jews; if \u201cno,\u201d He could be accused of treason<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Jesus asked for a coin and used it as a teaching tool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">His response divided <strong>earthly obligation from spiritual devotion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-mood-confrontational-clever-enlightening\">The Mood: Confrontational, Clever, Enlightening<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The Pharisees came with <strong>malice and manipulation<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Jesus responded with <strong>wisdom and composure<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The outcome left His enemies <strong>speechless and amazed<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-principle-discern-earthly-duty-and-heavenly-allegiance\">The Principle: Discern Earthly Duty and Heavenly Allegiance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">We live in the world, but we belong to God<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Jesus didn\u2019t dodge the issue\u2014He transcended it when tested on paying Caesar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">His answer teaches that <strong>we bear God&#8217;s image<\/strong>, and therefore owe Him our <strong>whole lives<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-audience-response-then\">Audience Response (Then)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The leaders who try to trap Him, but He <strong>amazed and silenced<\/strong> them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">They could not twist His words or trap Him in controversy about paying Caesar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Onlookers were likely left with a more profound reverence for His divine wisdom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-this-means-for-us-in-2025\">What This Means for Us in 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We face endless debates about politics, taxes, and government. Jesus reminds us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Give honor and respect where it\u2019s due<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Don\u2019t confuse national identity with Kingdom citizenship<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Your greatest allegiance is to God<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>You bear His image\u2014so live like you belong to Him<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-action-steps-for-today\">Action Steps for Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pay what you owe\u2014honestly and responsibly.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Don&#8217;t be pulled into political traps.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Remember whose image you bear\u2014God\u2019s.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Live out Kingdom values in a divided world.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Speak truth with both courage and wisdom.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-final-prayer\">Final Prayer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Lord, thank You for Your wisdom in every situation. Help me navigate this world with integrity and discernment. Keep my heart loyal to You while honoring the systems I live in. Let my life reflect Your image and Your glory.
