this is My body.\u201d 27\u00a0And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, \u201cDrink from it, all of you; 28\u00a0for this is My blood of the covenant, which is being poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. 29\u00a0But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it with you new in My Father\u2019s kingdom.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-was-involved\">Who Was Involved?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, establishing a new covenant with His followers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The disciples<\/strong>, participants in the first Lord&#8217;s Supper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Us today<\/strong>, invited into the same covenant by faith<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\">What Happened?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">During the Passover meal, Jesus\u00a0<strong>redefined the bread and wine<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The bread became a symbol of\u00a0<strong>His body given for us<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The wine became the symbol of\u00a0<strong>His blood poured out for forgiveness<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Jesus pointed forward to a\u00a0<strong>future reunion in the Father\u2019s kingdom<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-mood-sacred-solemn-hopeful\">The Mood: Sacred, Solemn, Hopeful<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">There is\u00a0<strong>intimacy<\/strong>\u00a0in this moment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Jesus speaks with clarity and purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">He knows His death is near, but looks ahead to\u00a0<strong>eternal communion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-principle-the-table-is-a-place-of-covenant-and-remembrance\">The Principle: The Table Is a Place of Covenant and Remembrance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Communion is more than ritual\u2014it is\u00a0<strong>participation in the gospel<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The body and blood remind us that\u00a0<strong>forgiveness cost Jesus everything<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Lord&#8217;s Supper looks\u00a0<strong>backward to the cross and forward to the kingdom<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-audience-response-then\">Audience Response (Then)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The disciples received what Jesus offered, though they did not fully grasp the moment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Their obedience laid the foundation for the\u00a0<strong>early Church\u2019s practice of Communion.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Jesus re-centered the Passover around\u00a0<strong>Himself as the fulfillment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-this-means-for-us-in-2025\">What This Means for Us in 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">We are still called to the table\u2014<strong>to remember, to repent, and to rejoice<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Communion is a\u00a0<strong>battle cry of grace<\/strong>: We are His, and He is coming back<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">This sacred act reminds us that our\u00a0<strong>hope is anchored in covenant, not performance<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-action-steps-for-today\">Action Steps for Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Take Communion seriously.<\/strong>\u00a0Don\u2019t let routine rob it of its power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Examine your heart before the table.<\/strong>\u00a0Let grace lead your repentance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Celebrate your forgiveness.<\/strong>\u00a0You are part of a new covenant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Live in hope.<\/strong>\u00a0Jesus is coming back to finish what He started<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Invite others.<\/strong>\u00a0The table is open for all who trust in Him<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-final-prayer\">Final Prayer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus, thank You for Your body given, and Your blood poured out for me. Help me never forget the cost of grace. Strengthen me each time I take Communion. Let this sacred meal shape my identity and my actions.
