{"id":3049,"date":"2025-12-19T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T12:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=3049"},"modified":"2025-12-06T14:41:01","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T20:41:01","slug":"jesus-handed-to-pilate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/jesus-handed-to-pilate\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus Handed to Pilate: When the Crowd Chooses Wrong"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\"><em>Matthew 27:15\u201326<\/em> discusses the moment when Jesus was handed to Pilate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In a moment fueled by fear and influence, the crowd chose Barabbas over Jesus\u2014a scene where Jesus was handed over to Pilate echoes into our own culture today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-matthew-27-15-26-nasb-2020\">Matthew 27:15\u201326 (NASB 2020)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>15\u00a0Now at the Passover Feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted. 16\u00a0And at that time they were holding a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. 17\u00a0So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, \u201cWhom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?\u201d 18\u00a0For he knew that it was because of envy that they had handed Him over. 19\u00a0And while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, \u201cSee that you have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.&#8221; 20\u00a0But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to put Jesus to death. 21\u00a0And the governor said to them, \u201cWhich of the two do you want me to release for you?\u201d And they said, \u201cBarabbas.\u201d 22\u00a0Pilate\u00a0<em>said to them<\/em>, \u201cThen what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?\u201d They all\u00a0<em>said<\/em>, \u201cCrucify Him!\u201d 23\u00a0But he said, \u201cWhy, what evil has He done?\u201d Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying, \u201cCrucify Him!\u201d 24\u00a0Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, \u201cI am innocent of this Man&#8217;s blood; you yourselves shall see.\u201d 25\u00a0And all the people replied, \u201cHis blood shall be on us and on our children!\u201d 26\u00a0Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-was-involved\">Who Was Involved?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, the innocent One, rejected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pilate<\/strong>, the Roman governor, was trying to shift the blame after Jesus was handed over to him.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Barabbas<\/strong>, the criminal set free<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The crowd<\/strong>, swayed by religious leaders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Chief priests and elders<\/strong>, manipulating for power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pilate\u2019s wife<\/strong>, disturbed by a dream<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Us today<\/strong>, who often must choose between truth and pressure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\">What Happened?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Pilate offered to release Jesus or Barabbas.
