Mark is showing Roman believers that Jesus is not bound by social status or purity laws. <\/strong>In the story of how Jesus heals the leper in Mark, we see his willingness to reach out to the marginalized. This gospel is full of action and authority\u2014and here, we see mercy in motion<\/strong> as Jesus does the unthinkable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A man with leprosy, cast out from society, makes a bold request. Jesus doesn\u2019t flinch. He touches the untouchable<\/strong> and heals him completely. This shows Jesus\u2019 authority over disease<\/strong> and His willingness to defy religious and social norms for the sake of love<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And a man with leprosy\u00a0came to Jesus, imploring Him and kneeling down, and saying to Him, \u201cIf You are willing, You can make me clean.\u201d<\/em> Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out with His hand and touched him, and\u00a0said to him, \u201cI am willing; be cleansed.\u201d<\/em> And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away, and\u00a0He said to him, \u201cSee that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.\u201d<\/em> But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him from everywhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n This man, desperate and bold, comes to Jesus and kneels. His faith is evident\u2014he believes Jesus can heal him if He\u2019s willing. Jesus is moved with compassion<\/strong>, reaches out, and touches him<\/strong>\u2014a shocking act in that culture. Immediately, the man is healed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus then tells him to follow the law and remain quiet. But the man, overwhelmed, tells everyone. As a result, Jesus must minister in more isolated places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I am willing; be cleansed.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest…”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Jesus affirms the man\u2019s dignity and obedience to Mosaic law, even as He upends social norms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus doesn\u2019t just cleanse the body\u2014He restores identity, dignity, and direction.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n In the next post, we\u2019ll see how Jesus responds to a paralyzed man lowered through a roof\u2014and the bold friends who brought him.
