As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast. But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day. No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-audience-of-the-gospel-of-mark\">Audience of the Gospel of Mark<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is questioned by the religious leaders about fasting. Mark writes to a Roman audience immersed in performance and ritual. His readers needed to understand that following Jesus isn\u2019t about religious routines\u2014it\u2019s about new life. They question His methods.
