The Pharisees were saying to Him, \u201cLook, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?\u201d Jesus said to them, \u201cHave you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry\u2014how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and also gave it to those who were with him?\u201d Jesus said to them, \u201cThe Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-audience-of-the-gospel-of-mark\">Audience of the Gospel of Mark<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Mark is writing to Gentile believers who may not fully grasp the Jewish legal traditions. This interaction reveals that Jesus, as Lord of the Sabbath, challenges man-made interpretations of God\u2019s law and introduces a better way rooted in purpose and grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-focus-and-character-of-jesus\">Key Focus and Character of Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus is portrayed as&nbsp;<strong>Authoritative<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Compassionate<\/strong>. He doesn\u2019t dismiss the Sabbath but reclaims its purpose. His character radiates clarity, confidence, and care for His disciples&#8217; needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-person-people-jesus-interacted-with\">Person\/People Jesus Interacted With<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><b>His hungry disciples<\/b> picked grain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The Pharisees<\/strong>, who accused them of breaking the law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\">What Happened?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As Jesus and His disciples walk through grainfields on the Sabbath, the disciples pluck heads of grain\u2014a common, permissible act for travelers. But the&nbsp;<strong>Pharisees interpret this as unlawful work<\/strong>.
