They lived in an empire of military authority and political might. Mark highlights Jesus as the Servant-King, a leader who doesn\u2019t dominate but calls others into divine purpose when Jesus appoints the twelve disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-focus-and-the-character-of-christ\">The Focus and the Character of Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This scene shifts from healing and confrontation to the\u00a0<strong>formation of Jesus\u2019 core leadership team<\/strong>. Jesus ascends a mountain, a place of divine encounter, and calls those whom He Himself chooses. His character here is intentional, relational, and sovereign. And He appointed twelve, so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach, and to have authority to cast out the demons. He appointed the twelve:\u00a0<em>Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter),<\/em> <em>James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, \u201cSons of Thunder\u201d);<\/em> <em>Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot;<\/em> <em>and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-people-jesus-engaged\">People Jesus Engaged<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus summoned twelve specific men to come close to Him. These were everyday individuals\u2014fishermen, a tax collector, a Zealot\u2014whom Jesus would shape into leaders. He called&nbsp;<strong>not the elite<\/strong>, but the willing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened\">What Happened?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus withdrew from the crowds and climbed a mountain. There, He called&nbsp;<strong>those He wanted<\/strong>&nbsp;to Himself. He appointed them to be&nbsp;<strong>with Him<\/strong>, to&nbsp;<strong>preach<\/strong>, and to carry&nbsp;<strong>spiritual authority<\/strong>&nbsp;to drive out demons. This is a powerful transfer of purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-tone-and-setting\">The Tone and Setting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The setting is sacred, decisive, and deeply personal. The mood is one of commissioning\u2014Jesus is&nbsp;<strong>building a movement<\/strong>, not just gathering followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-jesus-said-or-did\">What Jesus Said or Did<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus didn\u2019t preach a sermon here. Yet He called them anyway. Your background does not disqualify you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Being With Jesus Precedes Doing for Jesus<\/strong>: Ministry begins with proximity, not activity. Jesus calls us first to\u00a0<strong>be with Him<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Every Calling Has a Purpose<\/strong>: You are not called to spectate but to serve with power.
