Mark writes to believers who needed reassurance that suffering was not failure. The Transfiguration of Jesus is a scene that offers divine confirmation that Jesus\u2019 path to the cross is also the path to glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The focus is Jesus\u2019 divine identity<\/strong>. He is revealed not only as Messiah but as the beloved Son of God. His character shines with glory, authority, and fulfillment of God\u2019s redemptive plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And six days later, Jesus\u00a0took with Him Peter, James, and John<\/em>, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was\u00a0transfigured before them<\/em>; and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. Peter\u00a0said to Jesus<\/em>, \u201cRabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.\u201d For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a\u00a0voice came out of the cloud<\/em>, \u201cThis is My beloved Son, listen to Him!\u201d All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead. They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant. They asked Him, saying, \u201cWhy is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?\u201d And He said to them, \u201cElijah does come first and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Jesus is with Peter, James, and John<\/strong>\u2014His inner circle\u2014along with Moses and Elijah<\/strong>, representing the Law and the Prophets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus is transfigured, revealing His divine glory. Moses and Elijah appear, affirming that Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets. The Father\u2019s voice commands the disciples to listen to Jesus above all else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The tone is awe-filled and overwhelming<\/strong>. Fear and wonder collide as heaven briefly breaks into earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus speaks little, but the Father speaks clearly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is My beloved Son, listen to Him!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n This command settles all debate about authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n God revealed Jesus\u2019 glory to prepare His followers for suffering. The same is true for us\u2014glory strengthens obedience.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
