Therefore, he shows that Jesus\u2019 life begins in full obedience to God\u2019s Law and that God confirms His plan through multiple witnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\"><strong>Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus\u2019 Character<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The focus is\u00a0on the recognition of the Messiah and the <strong>fulfillment of God\u2019s promises<\/strong>. Jesus is revealed as\u00a0<strong>the Savior prepared for all people<\/strong>, both Israel and the nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scripture-luke-2-21-38-nasb\"><strong>Scripture: Luke 2:21\u201338 (NASB)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>And when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, \u201cEvery firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord\u201d), and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, \u201cA pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.\u201d And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord\u2019s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, \u201cNow Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, A Light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.\u201d And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, \u201cBehold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed\u2014 and a sword will pierce even your own soul\u2014to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.\u201d And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\"><strong>The People in the Interaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This interaction includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Mary and Joseph<\/strong>, faithfully obeying the Law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, the infant Messiah<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Simeon<\/strong>, a devout man led by the Holy Spirit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Anna<\/strong>, a prophetess devoted to prayer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Others in the temple<\/strong>, who hear the testimony<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\"><strong>What Happened in the Scene<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple to fulfill the requirements of the Law. There, Simeon, led by the Holy Spirit, recognizes Jesus as the promised Messiah and declares that he has now seen God\u2019s salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Anna also arrives, gives thanks to God, and begins telling others about the child.
