Ideas about God, truth, morality, and identity are being shaped rapidly, often influenced by culture, experience, and tradition as much as, or more than, Scripture itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Most people do not arrive at incorrect conclusions intentionally. Rather, beliefs are often formed gradually\u2014through what is seen, heard, felt, and repeated over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This is why Scripture continually calls believers back to a single, unchanging foundation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">\u201cSanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.\u201d \u2014 John 17:17 (NASB)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">To understand the confusion we see today, we must first understand how people arrive there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-when-culture-becomes-the-lens-for-truth\"><strong>1. When Culture Becomes the Lens for Truth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In today\u2019s environment, cultural influence is constant. Social media, news, community, and personal relationships all contribute to how individuals interpret the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This influence can lead to two different, but related, outcomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Blending faith with political or national identity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Redefining love and morality through cultural values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-this-happen\"><strong>How Does This Happen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">People are often seeking stability, identity, and meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Some look to structure, authority, and national identity to provide order in uncertain times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Others prioritize compassion, inclusion, and personal experience, seeking to reduce harm and promote acceptance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Both desires, order and compassion, are understandable. However, when culture begins to shape how Scripture is interpreted, rather than Scripture shaping how culture is understood, the foundation shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-biblical-anchor\"><strong>The Biblical Anchor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cMy kingdom is not of this world.\u201d \u2014 John 18:36 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">God\u2019s truth is not established by political systems or cultural agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At the same time, Scripture defines love in a way that is inseparable from truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cThis is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.\u201d \u2014 1 John 5:3 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">When culture defines love, truth becomes flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">When Scripture defines love, truth remains consistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-when-expression-replaces-scriptural-authority\"><strong>2. When Expression Replaces Scriptural Authority<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Another common pathway is the rise of spiritual expression that is not grounded in Scripture. Many ideas sound encouraging, but lack a biblical foundation or context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-this-happen-0\"><strong>How Does This Happen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This often develops through a combination of familiarity and simplification:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Exposure to biblical language without deep study<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Reliance on short-form content that prioritizes clarity over accuracy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Personal experiences shaping the interpretation of truth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Over time, individuals may begin to equate what feels right with what is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-biblical-standard\"><strong>The Biblical Standard<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cAll Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.\u201d \u2014 2 Timothy 3:16 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Scripture is not merely inspirational; it is authoritative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">When Scripture is not the foundation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Opinions begin to carry equal weight with truth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Context is overlooked<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Partial truths are treated as complete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Even sincere belief can drift when it is not anchored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-when-tradition-becomes-a-competing-authority\"><strong>3. When Tradition Becomes a Competing Authority<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In addition to culture and personal expression, tradition can also shape belief. Throughout history, practices, teachings, and interpretations have been passed down and preserved within communities of faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Tradition, in itself, is not inherently negative. It can provide continuity, structure, and historical understanding. However, it becomes problematic when it is elevated to the level of authority alongside, or even above, Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-this-happen-1\"><strong>How Does This Happen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This often begins with trust and continuity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Individuals trust the teachings they have received from leaders, churches, or longstanding institutions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Practices are repeated over time until they are assumed to be biblically required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Questioning tradition may feel like questioning faith itself<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Over time, tradition can become so familiar that it is no longer examined in light of Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-biblical-warning\"><strong>The Biblical Warning<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cNeglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.\u201d \u2014 Mark 7:8 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Jesus addressed this directly, confronting situations where tradition had begun to override God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-maintaining-proper-order\"><strong>Maintaining Proper Order<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Tradition can serve as a guide, but it must always remain\u00a0<strong>under<\/strong>\u00a0the authority of Scripture, not equal to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">When tradition becomes the standard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Scripture may be interpreted through tradition rather than examined directly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Practices may continue without biblical support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Correction becomes difficult because the foundation is assumed rather than tested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-when-the-desire-for-depth-leads-to-misalignment\"><strong>4. This has led some toward increased interest in Jewish practices and traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-this-happen-2\"><strong>How Does This Happen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This often begins with a sincere desire:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">To understand the context in which Scripture was written<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To connect more deeply with the origins of the faith<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To move beyond surface-level understanding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">These are valuable pursuits. However, without clear biblical boundaries, this desire can lead to confusion about identity and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-biblical-clarification\"><strong>The Biblical Clarification<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cFor Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.\u201d \u2014 Romans 10:4 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cTherefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.\u201d \u2014 Colossians 2:16 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The early church addressed this issue clearly, affirming that righteousness is found in Christ, not in adherence to the Old Covenant law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-balanced-understanding\"><strong>A Balanced Understanding<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Understanding the Old Testament enriches faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Returning to it as a system of righteousness replaces the sufficiency of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-believers-can-remain-grounded-in-truth\"><strong>How Believers Can Remain Grounded in Truth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In a world shaped by culture, expression, and tradition, Scripture provides a steady path forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-establish-scripture-as-the-final-authority\"><strong>1. Establish Scripture as the Final Authority<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cYour word is truth.\u201d \u2014 John 17:17<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Everything else must be measured against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-study-with-context-and-care\"><strong>2. Study with Context and Care<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Understanding Scripture requires time, humility, and attention to context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-test-all-influences\"><strong>3. Test All Influences<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Culture, personal experience, and tradition should all be examined\u2014not assumed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>\u201cTest all things; hold fast to what is good.\u201d \u2014 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NASB)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-grow-in-discernment\"><strong>4.
