Therefore, he records the younger son\u2019s journey in remarkable detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Jesus is doing more than telling a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is helping both sinners and religious leaders understand what sin actually is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because before repentance can be understood, rebellion must first be understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Luke 15:11-20 NASB<br>And He said, &#8220;A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, &#8216;Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.&#8217; So he divided his wealth between them. And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living. Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be impoverished. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would have gladly filled his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him. But when he came to his senses, he said, &#8216;How many of my father&#8217;s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, &#8220;Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.&#8221;&#8216; So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The People in the Interaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This section of the parable focuses on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The Father<\/strong>, who grants freedom despite the pain it class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To modern readers, this may sound financially motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Jesus\u2019 audience would have been stunned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the culture of that day, inheritances were distributed after a father\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, the younger son is essentially saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFather, I want what belongs to you, but I do not want you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To those listening, the request would have sounded very much like wishing his father were already dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet the father grants the request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately, the son gathers his wealth and leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice what happens next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not merely leave the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He leaves the relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he leaves the protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He leaves the identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He leaves his father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he travels to a distant country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The far country becomes more than a location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It becomes a picture of life separated from the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first, everything appears successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Freedom feels exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Money feels unlimited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The future appears bright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, sin always overpromises and underdelivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The son wastes everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then a famine arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suddenly, the resources are gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The friends disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opportunities vanish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The freedom he pursued becomes slavery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, he takes a job feeding pigs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Jesus\u2019 Jewish audience, this detail carried enormous significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pigs were ceremonially unclean animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The son has fallen as low as can be imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, he becomes so hungry that the pigs appear better fed than he is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then something changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHe came to his senses.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This becomes the turning point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first time, the son sees reality clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He remembers the father\u2019s house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He remembers the father\u2019s goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he remembers what he abandoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he begins the journey home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-younger-son\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Deep Theology of the Younger Son<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The younger son\u2019s story is not primarily about bad behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is about attempted independence from the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the beginning of the story, the son believes freedom exists away from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He believes happiness exists away from the father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He believes fulfillment lies outside a relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet every step away from the father produces greater loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reflects humanity\u2019s story throughout Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From Adam and Eve onward, people have repeatedly believed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLife will be better if I run my own life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, separation from God never produces the freedom people expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, it produces emptiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The younger son discovers what every believer eventually discovers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greatest loss was never the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The greatest heart before it appears in actions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Independence from God always carries consequences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Repentance begins when reality breaks through self-deception<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The road home starts with presence remains constant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The son may leave the father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The father never stops being the father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-sin-is-more-than-rule-breaking\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Sin Is More Than Rule-Breaking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At its core, sin is choosing life apart from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-independence-often-becomes-bondage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. he needed freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What he actually needed was the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The far country promised everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pleasure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet it delivered isolation, emptiness, and hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, the son discovered something many people spend a lifetime learning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father\u2019s house was never the prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father\u2019s house was home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the moment he recognized that truth, everything began to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are we still searching for life in the far country\u2014or have we come to our senses and started the journey
