class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus explains that everything written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man is about to be fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then He describes the coming events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He will be handed over to the Gentiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He will be mocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p precision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not speak in vague terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not offer symbolic language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He describes specific events that will soon unfold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every step of the coming suffering is already known to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet He continues walking toward Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continues moving toward the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continues embracing the mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-passage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Deep Theology of the Passage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most important themes in this interaction is fulfillment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus begins by saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll things which are written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This statement connects the Cross to the entire story of Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crucifixion was not Plan B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was not a divine adjustment after human failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the fulfillment of God\u2019s redemptive plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Centuries earlier, the prophets had spoken of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A suffering servant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A rejected Messiah<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A sacrificial Lamb<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A coming Redeemer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passages such as Isaiah things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meaning remained hidden from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This raises an important question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How could Jesus be so clear while the disciples remained so confused?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer lies in their expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like many Jews of their day, the disciples expected a conquering Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They anticipated victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kingdom glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They expected a crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They did not expect a Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, they struggled to process anything that contradicted their expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truth stood directly before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet their assumptions prevented them from understanding it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-necessity-of-the-cross\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Necessity of the Cross<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disciples viewed suffering as an obstacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus viewed suffering as the pathway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without the Cross:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Sin remains unpaid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Justice remains unsatisfied<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Humanity remains separated from God<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Redemption remains incomplete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suffering Jesus predicts is not incidental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every insult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And every humiliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every moment of suffering moves toward the salvation of sinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus knows the cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet He willingly pays it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-courage-of-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Courage of Christ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this interaction is what Jesus does after making these predictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He keeps going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine knowing every detail of what awaited you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The betrayal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mockery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scourging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The abandonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And still choosing to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is exactly what Jesus does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His courage flows from His love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His obedience flows from His commitment to the Father\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And His determination flows from His desire to redeem humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mood and Tone<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from\u00a0<strong>instruction to prophecy to misunderstanding to determination to anticipation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And through every stage, Jesus demonstrates unwavering commitment to His mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Jesus Reveals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The Cross was planned by God<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Scripture is trustworthy and prophetic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Redemption requires sacrifice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">God\u2019s purposes continue even when people do not understand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul Suffering Is Not Always Failure<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes suffering is part of God\u2019s greater purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-jesus-chose-the-cross\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4.
