Therefore, after recording one failed attempt to trap Jesus, he immediately presents another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, a different group approaches Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pharisees believed in the resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sadducees did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they accepted only the first five books of Moses as fully authoritative, they rejected beliefs they thought could not be established from those writings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confident in their position, they attempt to expose what they believe is the absurdity of resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, Jesus reveals that they have misunderstood both Scripture and God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Luke 20:27-40 NASB<br>Now there came to Him some of the Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection), and they questioned Him, saying, &#8220;Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if A MAN&#8217;S BROTHER DIES, having a wife, AND HE IS CHILDLESS, HIS BROTHER SHOULD MARRY THE WIFE AND RAISE UP CHILDREN TO HIS BROTHER. Now there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless; [and the second and the third married her; and in the same way all seven died, leaving no children. Finally the woman died also. In the resurrection therefore, which one&#8217;s wife will she be? For all seven had married her.&#8221; Jesus said to them, &#8220;The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord the GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB. Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him.&#8221; Some of the scribes answered and said, &#8220;Teacher, You have spoken well.&#8221; For they did not have courage to question Him any longer about anything.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus\u2019 Character<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the certainty of the resurrection, the nature of eternal life, and the power of God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as <strong>the divine Teacher who possesses perfect understanding of Scripture and complete authority over life and death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More importantly, He reveals that death does not have the final word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God\u2019s covenant extends beyond the grave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The People in the Interaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This interaction includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, answering the challenge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The Sadducees<\/strong>, denying the resurrection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The scribes<\/strong>, observing the discussion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The crowd<\/strong>, listening in the temple courts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Happened in the Scene<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sadducees approach Jesus with a carefully constructed scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They begin by referring to the Law of Moses regarding levirate marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Law, if a married man died without children, his brother was to marry the widow in order to preserve the deceased brother\u2019s family line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sadducees then create an exaggerated example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A woman marries seven brothers in succession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each husband dies without leaving children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the woman also dies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then comes their question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIn the resurrection, therefore, which one\u2019s wife will she be? For all seven had married her.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They believe they have created an impossible situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If resurrection exists, surely this example proves it cannot work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the problem is not the resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is their assumption that eternity functions exactly like earthly life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-resurrection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Deep Theology of the Resurrection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus begins by correcting their understanding of eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explains that marriage belongs to the present age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the resurrection, life is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People neither marry nor are given in marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This statement is not a reduction of human relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a revelation that eternity surpasses everything we currently experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marriage was designed for this present world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It provides companionship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The continuation of human life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in the resurrection, death no longer exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, marriage no longer serves its earthly purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, believers experience complete fellowship with God and with one another in a perfected creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is not saying relationships become less meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is saying they become more complete than we can presently imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-god-of-abraham-isaac-and-jacob\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then Jesus does something remarkable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He answers the Sadducees using the very portion of Scripture they accept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He points to Moses and the burning bush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There God declares:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the wording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God does not say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was the God of Abraham.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time Moses encounters the burning bush, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob have been physically dead for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet God still identifies Himself as their God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus then explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the most profound affirmations of life after death found anywhere in Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God\u2019s covenant relationship with His people does not end at death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because God is eternal, His promises are eternal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those who belong to Him continue living in His presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-power-of-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Power of God<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sadducees\u2019 mistake extends beyond biblical interpretation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They underestimate God\u2019s power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they assume resurrection is impossible because they cannot imagine how it would work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reminds them that divine power is not limited by human understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The God who created life from dust can certainly restore life again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The God who spoke the universe into existence can certainly raise the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout history, people have often rejected God\u2019s promises because they seem impossible from a human perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Scripture repeatedly reminds us that what is impossible with people is possible with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-why-the-resurrection-matters\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why the Resurrection Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resurrection is not merely an interesting theological doctrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is central to the Christian faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without resurrection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Death wins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Sin remains undefeated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">God\u2019s promises remain incomplete.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Justice is never fully accomplished.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Hope ends at the grave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, because resurrection is real, everything changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Death becomes a doorway rather than a destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suffering becomes temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The grave loses its finality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is preparing His listeners for His own resurrection, which will soon become the greatest confirmation of everything He teaches here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-the-scribes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Response of the Scribes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After Jesus finishes speaking, some of the scribes respond:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTeacher, You have spoken well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even scholars who often disagreed with Jesus recognize the brilliance of His answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke then adds an important observation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one any longer dared to question Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One by one, every attempt to discredit Jesus has failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His wisdom consistently silences His opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mood and Tone<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>challenge \u2192 correction \u2192 revelation \u2192 hope \u2192 silence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And through every stage, Jesus points beyond earthly assumptions toward eternal reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Jesus Reveals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The resurrection is real.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Eternal life differs from earthly life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">God\u2019s covenant continues beyond death.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Scripture consistently points to resurrection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">God\u2019s power exceeds human imagination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Death is not the end for God\u2019s people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-the-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Response of the Others<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-sadducees\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Sadducees<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They attempt to ridicule the resurrection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, their misunderstanding is exposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-scribes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Scribes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some acknowledge Jesus\u2019 wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-crowd\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Crowd<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They witness another demonstration of Christ\u2019s authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He reveals both the truth of Scripture and the power of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-eternal-life-is-real\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Eternal Life Is Real<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Death is not the final chapter for those who belong to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-god-s-word-is-trustworthy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. God\u2019s Word Is Trustworthy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The promises of Scripture extend beyond this present life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-god-s-power-has-no-limits\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. God\u2019s Power Has No Limits<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What seems impossible to us remains possible for Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-hope-extends-beyond-the-grave\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Hope Extends Beyond the Grave<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believers grieve with hope because resurrection awaits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-we-must-avoid-limiting-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5.
