Therefore, after concluding Jesus\u2019 public teaching, Luke now shifts from instruction to the unfolding drama of the Passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The atmosphere changes dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public teaching gives way to private conspiracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The religious leaders have failed to defeat Jesus publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now they turn to secrecy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, Luke reveals that behind the visible conflict lies an unseen spiritual battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross is approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And every major player begins moving into position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Luke 22:1-6 NASB<br>Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching. The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people. And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve. And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them. They were glad and agreed to give him money. So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus\u2019 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Jesus speaks very little in this passage, He remains its central figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even in silence, He reveals Himself as <strong>the sovereign Lamb of God who willingly walks toward the Cross according to the Father\u2019s eternal plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing happening around Him is outside His knowledge or beyond His control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Human evil will accomplish exactly what divine love has planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The People in the Interaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This interaction includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, preparing for the Passover<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Judas Iscariot<\/strong>, one of the Twelve<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The chief priests<\/strong>, seeking to kill Jesus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The officers of the temple guard<\/strong>, assisting the leaders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Satan<\/strong>, working behind the scenes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Happened in the Scene<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke begins by noting that the Feast of Unleavened Bread, also called the Passover, is approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This detail is deeply significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passover commemorates God\u2019s deliverance of Israel from slavery in Egypt through the sacrifice of a spotless lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soon, Jesus Himself will become the true Passover Lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the chief priests and scribes are looking for a way to eliminate Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet they face a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people admire Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An open arrest could provoke unrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They need an opportunity to seize Him quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then Luke records one of the saddest sentences in all of Scripture:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas goes to the religious leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He discusses how he can betray Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are delighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Money is promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An agreement is made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From that moment forward, Judas begins searching for the right opportunity to hand Jesus over when no crowd is present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The betrayal has begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-judas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Deep Theology of Judas<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most difficult questions in Scripture concerns Judas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How could someone who spent years with Jesus betray Him?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas heard every sermon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He witnessed countless miracles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He traveled with the disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he even participated in ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet outward proximity to Jesus never became inward transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reminds us of an important truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religious activity is not the same as saving faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person may know about Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serve in ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participate in church life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And still never surrender the heart to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas serves as one of Scripture\u2019s strongest warnings against confusing external association with genuine discipleship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-satan-entered-into-judas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cSatan Entered Into Judas\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke\u2019s statement raises another important theological question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Was Judas merely a victim?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p Judas as an unwilling puppet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the Gospels, Judas has already demonstrated patterns of greed and unbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His heart has gradually moved away from Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Satan enters a life already open to rebellion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The betrayal is therefore both spiritual warfare and human responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bible consistently teaches both realities without contradiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-sovereignty-of-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Sovereignty of God<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the greatest comfort in this passage is that none of these events surprise God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long before Judas was born:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The prophets foretold the Messiah\u2019s betrayal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Passover anticipated Christ\u2019s sacrifice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Psalm 41 spoke of a close companion lifting his heel against God\u2019s Anointed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Zechariah foretold the betrayal price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Human beings freely commit evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet God sovereignly accomplishes redemption through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not excuse Judas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor does it diminish human responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, it magnifies God\u2019s wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greatest act of human wickedness becomes the means of humanity\u2019s greatest salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only God could accomplish such a purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-why-the-passover-matters\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why the Passover Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke deliberately connects Judas\u2019 betrayal with Passover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is no coincidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For nearly fifteen centuries, Israel had celebrated the deliverance from Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every sacrificed lamb pointed forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every Passover meal anticipated something greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the true Lamb has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as the original Passover lamb died so others might live, <strong>Jesus will soon offer Himself for the sins of the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas unknowingly helps move God\u2019s redemptive plan toward its appointed fulfillment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-slow-drift-of-the-heart\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Slow Drift of the Heart<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One lesson from Judas deserves careful attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very few people abandon faith in a single moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The heart usually drifts gradually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small compromises become larger ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Secret sins become settled patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love for Christ slowly gives way to love for something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Judas\u2019 case, Scripture repeatedly hints that greed played a significant role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Money gradually became more valuable to him than the Master.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The betrayal did not begin in the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It began long before, within the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-a-stark-contrast\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Stark Contrast<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the contrast Luke has been building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The widow gave everything she had to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas sells the Son of God for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The widow trusted completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas betrayed completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One quiet act of worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One secret act of treachery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both occur during the same week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke continues showing that the true condition of the heart eventually becomes visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mood and Tone<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>anticipation \u2192 conspiracy \u2192 betrayal \u2192 darkness \u2192 inevitability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And through every stage, God\u2019s sovereign purpose quietly advances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Jesus Reveals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even without speaking, Jesus reveals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">God\u2019s redemptive plan cannot be stopped.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The true Passover Lamb has come.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Outward religion cannot replace inward faith.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Human choices carry eternal significance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">God remains sovereign even over evil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Cross is approaching exactly as planned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-the-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Response of the Others<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-judas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Judas<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He willingly agrees to betray Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-religious-leaders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Religious Leaders<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They rejoice because they believe they have finally found their opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-satan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Satan<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He works to oppose God\u2019s purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>God<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continues accomplishing His eternal plan of redemption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-nearness-to-jesus-does-not-guarantee-faith\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Nearness to Jesus Does Not Guarantee Faith<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The heart must truly belong to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-sin-usually-grows-gradually\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2.
