Therefore, after Peter\u2019s heartbreaking denial, Luke turns our attention back to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter has failed outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus remains faithful inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contrast is intentional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One disciple collapses under the pressure of fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Savior stands firm under the weight of unimaginable abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the formal trial has not yet begun, Jesus is already enduring humiliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His suffering begins long before the nails pierce His hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Luke 22:63-65 NASB<br>Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him, and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, &#8220;Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?&#8221; And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus\u2019 Character<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the humiliation of Christ, the fulfillment of prophecy, and His perfect self-control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as <strong>the Suffering Servant who willingly endures injustice, ridicule, and violence without retaliation, fulfilling everything the prophets had foretold<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His silence is not weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is sovereign restraint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One who spoke galaxies into existence chooses not to speak a word in His own defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The People in the Interaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This interaction includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, the suffering Messiah<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The temple guards<\/strong>, mocking and abusing Him<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The religious authorities<\/strong>, allowing the abuse to continue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Happened in the Scene<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke describes the events with remarkable simplicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The men guarding Jesus begin mocking Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They beat Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They blindfold Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then they ridicule Him by saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cProphesy! Who is the one who hit You?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They continue hurling insults at Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scene is both cruel and deeply ironic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The very men mocking Jesus\u2019 prophetic office stand before the greatest Prophet who has ever lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One who had accurately foretold His betrayal, Peter\u2019s denial, the destruction of Jerusalem, and countless other events now stands silent while sinful men laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They believe they are humiliating Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In reality, they are fulfilling the Scriptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-suffering-servant\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Deep Theology of the Suffering Servant<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This brief passage cannot be understood apart from Isaiah 53.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Centuries before Jesus was born, God revealed through the prophet that His Servant would be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Despised.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Rejected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Oppressed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Afflicted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Silent before His accusers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke intentionally records Jesus\u2019 abuse in language that echoes these prophecies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing occurring in this room is random.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every insult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every blow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And every act of mockery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moves redemption one step closer to completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Messiah had not merely come to teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had come to suffer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-why-they-blindfolded-him\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why They Blindfolded Him<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The guards blindfold Jesus before striking Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then they demand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cProphesy!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their mockery reveals profound spiritual blindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They assume that because Jesus claims prophetic authority, He should entertain them by identifying His attackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus has never used His divine power for self-preservation or personal display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout His ministry, every miracle served the Father\u2019s purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never His own comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ironically, Jesus already knows exactly who struck Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows their names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their motives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He even knows that He is about to die for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The blindfold covers His eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It cannot diminish His omniscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-irony-of-human-blindness\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Irony of Human Blindness<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke fills this passage with irony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The guards think Jesus cannot see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In truth, they are the ones who are blind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They see His face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They miss His identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they hear His voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They reject His message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They strike the Son of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without recognizing the One standing before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reflects one of Luke\u2019s recurring themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Physical sight does not guarantee spiritual vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The blind often recognize Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The seeing often remain blind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-silence-of-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Silence of Christ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most remarkable features of the Passion narrative is what Jesus does <strong>not<\/strong> do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not defend Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not threaten His attackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And He does not call down judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not summon the armies of heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Could He have?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But redemption requires submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Justice will come later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy is being offered now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The silence of Christ is not passive resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is active obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He willingly absorbs the hatred of sinful humanity so that sinful humanity might receive the grace of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-cost-of-redemption\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Cost of Redemption<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people think of the Cross only in terms of crucifixion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus\u2019 suffering begins much earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He experiences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Betrayal by a friend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Abandonment by His disciples.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">False accusations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Physical abuse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Public humiliation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Emotional rejection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He enters fully into the brokenness of human suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hebrews later reminds believers that we have a High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That sympathy was earned through real suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus knows what it means to be mocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be falsely accused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And to be abused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No human sorrow is foreign to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-fulfillment-without-resistance\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fulfillment Without Resistance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the Passion narrative, Luke repeatedly shows that Jesus never loses control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others appear to direct events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In reality, Jesus continues fulfilling the Father\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The guards believe they are exercising power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is exercising obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History often judges power by who appears strongest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heaven judges power by who remains faithful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No greater display of strength has ever existed than the Son of God refusing to retaliate while accomplishing the salvation of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mood and Tone<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>cruelty to mockery to humiliation to silent majesty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And through every stage, Jesus remains perfectly faithful to the Father\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Jesus Reveals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Perfect humility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Absolute self-control.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The fulfillment of prophetic Scripture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Compassion in the face of hatred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The true strength of obedience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The immeasurable cost of redemption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-the-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Response of the Others<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-guards\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Guards<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They mock, beat, and insult Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-religious-leaders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Religious Leaders<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They permit the abuse to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He remains silent, faithful, and fully committed to the Father\u2019s plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-true-strength-is-often-quiet\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1.
