Therefore, after Pilate publicly declares that he finds no guilt in Jesus, he discovers that Jesus is a Galilean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That detail presents Pilate with an opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since Galilee falls under Herod Antipas&#8217;s jurisdiction, Pilate sends Jesus to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only Luke records this encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That alone makes this passage especially significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke wants his readers to see that another ruler also examines Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And once again, no guilt is found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet beyond the legal proceedings, Luke exposes a deeper spiritual issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is possible to be fascinated by Jesus while remaining completely unchanged by Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Luke 23:6-12 NASB<br>When Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that He belonged to Herod&#8217;s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was in Jerusalem at that time. Now Herod was very glad when he saw Jesus; for he had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had been hearing about Him and was hoping to see some sign performed by Him. And he questioned Him at some length; but He answered him nothing. And the chief priests and the scribes were standing there, accusing Him vehemently. And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, dressed Him in a gorgeous robe and sent Him back to Pilate. Now Herod and Pilate became friends with one another that very day; for before they had been enemies with each other.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator innocence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as <strong>the sovereign King who refuses to perform for those who seek entertainment rather than repentance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His silence is not weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is judgment upon a heart that has repeatedly rejected the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The People in the Interaction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This interaction includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong>, standing before Herod<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Herod Antipas<\/strong>, ruler of Galilee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>The chief priests and scribes<\/strong>, continuing their accusations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pilate<\/strong>, seeking relief from political pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Herod\u2019s soldiers<\/strong>, mocking class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke tells us that Herod is delighted to see Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first, this sounds encouraging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Luke immediately explains why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod has long wanted to meet Jesus because he has heard many reports about Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More importantly, he hopes to witness a miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To Herod, Jesus is not the Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps even a magician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod begins asking Jesus many questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus answers none of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the chief priests and scribes continue bringing accusation after accusation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Receiving no response, Herod and his soldiers begin mocking Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They dress Him in a magnificent robe, ridiculing His claim to kingship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then they send Him back to Pilate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke concludes with an unexpected observation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That very day, Pilate and Herod became friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, they had been enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-christ-s-silence\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Deep Theology of Christ\u2019s Silence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout His ministry, Jesus answered sincere seekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He welcomed difficult questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He patiently taught confused disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And He even engaged hostile religious leaders when they genuinely addressed matters of truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why, then, does He remain silent before Herod?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because Herod is not seeking truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is seeking amusement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This distinction is crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God gladly reveals Himself to those who sincerely seek Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But He does not exist to satisfy human curiosity or provide spiritual entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod had already rejected the ministry of <strong>John the Baptist<\/strong>, whom he eventually executed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now he stands before the One to whom John pointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His opportunity for repentance has been repeatedly ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus\u2019 silence becomes a form of judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The King owes no performance to a hardened heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-who-was-herod-antipas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Was Herod Antipas?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke\u2019s readers already know Herod well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in the Gospel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">He imprisoned John the Baptist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">He reluctantly ordered John\u2019s execution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">He heard reports about Jesus and wondered whether John had returned from the dead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod has lived with a troubled conscience for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than responding to conviction with repentance, he now seeks distraction through spectacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people respond the same way today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of confronting spiritual truth, they pursue endless distractions that keep them from dealing with the condition of their hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod becomes a tragic example of what happens when conviction is continually ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-mockery-of-the-robe\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Mockery of the Robe<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod\u2019s soldiers place a splendid robe upon Jesus before sending Him back to Pilate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once again, profound irony fills the passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They intend the robe as mockery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet they unknowingly proclaim the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus truly is a King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not merely of Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not merely of Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But of heaven and earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Human ridicule cannot diminish divine reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, throughout the Passion narrative, those attempting to mock Jesus often declare truths they themselves do not understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-friendship-of-pilate-and-herod\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Friendship of Pilate and Herod<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke adds a fascinating historical detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pilate and Herod became friends that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their friendship is built upon a shared rejection of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History repeatedly demonstrates this reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People who disagree about many things often unite in their opposition to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel continues to expose human hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not merely divide opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He reveals ultimate loyalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-innocence-of-christ-confirmed-again\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Innocence of Christ Confirmed Again<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Herod mocks Jesus, he finds no basis for condemnation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He returns Jesus to Pilate without issuing a guilty verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This becomes another witness to Christ\u2019s innocence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luke carefully builds the legal case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sanhedrin condemns Him for theological reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pilate finds no guilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod finds no guilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soon another witness will join them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again and again, Scripture establishes that the One dying on the Cross is completely innocent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only such a Savior could become the substitute for guilty sinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-curiosity-versus-faith\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Curiosity Versus Faith<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod teaches an important lesson for every generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not everyone interested in Jesus actually believes in Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some study Him historically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some admire His ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And some appreciate His miracles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some enjoy theological discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet genuine faith requires more than fascination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It requires surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herod wanted Jesus to entertain him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel calls people to worship Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference is eternal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mood and Tone<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>curiosity \u2192 silence \u2192 mockery \u2192 rejection \u2192 irony<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And through every stage, Jesus remains dignified, sovereign, and completely innocent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Jesus Reveals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Truth is not given for entertainment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Genuine faith differs from mere curiosity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">His kingship remains unchanged despite mockery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Silence can be an expression of judgment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Human rejection cannot overturn divine authority.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">He remains the innocent King.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-the-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Response of the Others<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-herod\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Herod<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He seeks entertainment rather than truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When disappointed, he mocks Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-religious-leaders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Religious Leaders<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They continue pressing false accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-pilate\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pilate<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He receives Jesus back, still without a conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He remains silent, entrusting Himself completely to the Father\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-curiosity-alone-cannot-save\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Curiosity Alone Cannot Save<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowing about Jesus is different from believing in Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-repeatedly-ignoring-the-truth-hardens-the-heart\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Repeatedly Ignoring the Truth Hardens the Heart<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conviction should lead to repentance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-christ-does-not-exist-to-entertain-us\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Christ Does Not Exist to Entertain Us<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He calls us to faith, worship, and obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-god-s-truth-remains-unchanged\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. God\u2019s Truth Remains Unchanged<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Human mockery cannot diminish Christ\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-jesus-is-worthy-of-more-than-interest\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5.
