{"id":4036,"date":"2026-08-02T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4036"},"modified":"2026-08-01T12:04:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T16:04:04","slug":"the-testimony-of-john-the-baptist-behold-the-lamb-of-god-john-1-19-34","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/the-testimony-of-john-the-baptist-behold-the-lamb-of-god-john-1-19-34\/","title":{"rendered":"The Testimony of John the Baptist: &#8220;Behold, the Lamb of God&#8221; (John 1:19\u201334)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The majestic prologue has answered one foundational question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who is Jesus?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now John begins answering another: <strong>How did God introduce His Son to the world?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God could have announced the Messiah through angels as He did at Bethlehem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He could have shaken the earth with signs from heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He chose a prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A wilderness preacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A man clothed in camel&#8217;s hair whose entire ministry centered on preparing people for Someone greater than himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passage introduces the first public witness to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything John the Baptist says points away from himself and toward Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That alone teaches us one of the greatest principles of Christian ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The closer a servant walks with God, the less he desires attention for himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>John 1:19-34 NASB<br>This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, &#8220;Who are you?&#8221; And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, &#8220;I am not the Christ.&#8221; They asked him, &#8220;What then? Are you Elijah?&#8221; And he said, &#8220;I am not.&#8221; &#8220;Are you the Prophet?&#8221; And he answered, &#8220;No.&#8221; Then they said to him, &#8220;Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?&#8221; He said, &#8220;I am a VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, &#8216;MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD,&#8217; as Isaiah the prophet said.&#8221; Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. They asked him, and said to him, &#8220;Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?&#8221; John answered them saying, &#8220;I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.&#8221; These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, &#8220;Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He on behalf of whom I said, &#8216;After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.&#8217; I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.&#8221; John testified saying, &#8220;I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, &#8216;He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.&#8217;I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the identity of Jesus as the Lamb of God, the humility of John the Baptist, the public witness of the Holy Spirit, and the revelation of Jesus as the Son of God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Lamb of God,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the preexistent Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the promised Messiah.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John the Baptist reveals what true ministry always looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It continually points people away from the messenger and toward Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This interaction includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>John the Baptist<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Priests from Jerusalem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Levites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Pharisees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The delegation sent by the religious leaders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religious leaders from Jerusalem come to question John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His ministry has become impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crowds are traveling into the wilderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People are confessing sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel senses that something significant is happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation asks the obvious question: <strong>&#8220;Who are you?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John answers with remarkable clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He openly declares: <strong>&#8220;I am not the Christ.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They continue asking: <strong>&#8220;Are you Elijah?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;No.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Are you the Prophet?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;No.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, frustrated, they ask again: <strong>&#8220;Who are you?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John answers by quoting Isaiah 40: <strong>&#8220;I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, &#8216;Make straight the way of the Lord.'&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The religious leaders ask about John&#8217;s identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John answers by talking about Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is genuine humility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When questioned about himself, he redirects attention toward Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delegation then asks why he is baptizing if he is not the Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John explains that his baptism prepares people for Someone already standing among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he makes an astonishing statement: <strong>&#8220;Among you stands One whom you do not know.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Messiah has already arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people simply fail to recognize Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following day, John sees Jesus approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pointing toward Him, John declares: <strong>&#8220;Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John explains that although Jesus came after him chronologically, He existed before him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He then recounts Jesus&#8217; baptism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He saw the Holy Spirit descend from heaven like a dove and remain upon Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, John concludes his testimony: <strong>&#8220;I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first public witness has spoken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel has been introduced to her Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-humility-of-john-the-baptist\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Humility of John the Baptist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John&#8217;s humility deserves careful attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many would have embraced the attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crowds admired him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religious leaders questioned him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His influence was enormous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet John repeatedly says: <strong>&#8220;I am not.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He refuses titles that are not his.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He declines honor that belongs to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His identity is remarkably simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is not the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is merely the messenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the mark of authentic Christian leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">False teachers gather followers around themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faithful servants gather followers around Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John understood that the success of his ministry would ultimately be measured by how quickly people stopped following him and began following Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-i-am-a-voice\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;I Am a Voice&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John does not describe himself as a prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or a reformer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or even a preacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He simply says: <strong>&#8220;I am a voice.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A voice has one purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To communicate someone else&#8217;s message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the message is delivered, the voice fades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How different this is from modern culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We often seek to build our own platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John sought only to amplify Christ&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His ministry reminds every believer that our greatest privilege is not making our own name known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is making Christ known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-among-you-stands-one-whom-you-do-not-know\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Among You Stands One Whom You Do Not Know&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may be one of the saddest statements in John&#8217;s Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Messiah is already present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standing among His own people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet they do not recognize Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religion had become so occupied with traditions, expectations, and external observances that many failed to recognize God when He stood before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The warning still applies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is possible to become deeply religious while missing Christ Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowledge about God must never replace knowing God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-behold-the-lamb-of-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Behold the Lamb of God<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is perhaps John&#8217;s greatest declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lifetime of theology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The title <strong>&#8220;Lamb of God&#8221;<\/strong> reaches back through the entire Old Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It reminds us of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">The ram provided for Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 22).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Passover lamb in Egypt (Exodus 12).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The daily temple sacrifices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Isaiah&#8217;s suffering Servant led like a lamb to slaughter (Isaiah 53).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every sacrifice pointed here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John announces that the final sacrifice has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice he does not say: &#8220;The Lamb of Israel.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or: &#8220;The Lamb for certain people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;The Lamb of God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God Himself has provided the sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as Abraham declared: <strong>&#8220;God will provide for Himself the lamb.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now John announces: God has done exactly that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-who-takes-away-the-sin-of-the-world\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Who Takes Away the Sin of the World&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice John says: <strong>sin<\/strong> \u2014not sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The singular points to humanity&#8217;s fallen condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus came to address the root problem separating humanity from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The phrase <strong>&#8220;of the world&#8221;<\/strong> does not mean every person is automatically saved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather, it declares that Christ&#8217;s sacrifice is sufficient for the entire world and that salvation is no longer limited to one nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout John&#8217;s Gospel, the scope of God&#8217;s saving purpose continually expands beyond Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lamb is God&#8217;s provision for all who believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-he-existed-before-me\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;He Existed Before Me&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John says something remarkable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus was born approximately six months after John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet John declares: <strong>&#8220;He existed before me.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chronologically, this makes no sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Theologically, it makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John is affirming Christ&#8217;s eternal existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One approaching the Jordan River is not merely another man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is the eternal Word introduced in verses 1\u201318.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John&#8217;s testimony beautifully connects the Prologue with the historical narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-holy-spirit-descends\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Holy Spirit Descends<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John explains that he recognized Jesus because God had given him a sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Spirit would descend upon the Messiah and remain on Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This visible manifestation publicly identifies Jesus as God&#8217;s anointed King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the Old Testament, the Spirit came upon prophets, priests, and kings for specific tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here the Spirit remains permanently upon Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus possesses the fullness of the Spirit without measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything promised in Isaiah concerning the Spirit-filled Messiah is fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-he-baptizes-with-the-holy-spirit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;He Baptizes with the Holy Spirit&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John contrasts his own ministry with Christ&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John baptizes with water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Water symbolizes cleansing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Holy Spirit accomplishes transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John can prepare people externally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus changes them internally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Old Covenant anticipated cleansing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The New Covenant provides new life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-this-is-the-son-of-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;This Is the Son of God&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John concludes with the greatest confession possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lamb is also the Son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sacrifice is divine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why His death possesses infinite value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A merely human sacrifice could never redeem the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only because the Lamb is the eternal Son of God can His sacrifice accomplish complete salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John&#8217;s testimony leaves no room for a diminished view of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>questioning to Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Spirit-anointed Messiah,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the One who gives the Holy Spirit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-john-the-baptist\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">John the Baptist<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He joyfully points every person toward Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-religious-leaders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Religious Leaders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They investigate John but fail to recognize the Messiah already among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He quietly enters the scene, allowing the Father&#8217;s witness and John&#8217;s testimony to identify Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-the-greatest-ministry-always-points-to-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The Greatest Ministry Always Points to Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Success is measured by how clearly people see Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-religious-activity-cannot-replace-knowing-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Religious Activity Cannot Replace Knowing Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leaders searched for truth while standing before Truth Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-jesus-is-god-s-final-sacrifice\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Jesus Is God&#8217;s Final Sacrifice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing needs to be added to the work of the Lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-salvation-is-god-s-provision\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Salvation Is God&#8217;s Provision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do not provide the Lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God already has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-the-holy-spirit-changes-lives\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. The Holy Spirit Changes Lives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">External religion cannot accomplish what only Christ can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he could have introduced Him in countless ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Behold the King.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Behold the Messiah.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And <strong>&#8220;Behold the Son of David.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All would have been true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he chose the title that revealed <strong>why<\/strong> Jesus had come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Behold, the Lamb of God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before Jesus would wear a crown&#8230; He would become a sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before He would sit upon David&#8217;s throne&#8230; He would carry a cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before He would judge the world&#8230;
