{"id":4050,"date":"2026-08-06T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4050"},"modified":"2026-08-01T13:14:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T17:14:52","slug":"jesus-and-nicodemus-you-must-be-born-again-john-3-1-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/jesus-and-nicodemus-you-must-be-born-again-john-3-1-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus and Nicodemus: You Must Be Born Again (John 3:1\u201321)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John has just shown us a striking contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of chapter two, many people believed in Jesus because they witnessed His miracles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet John immediately tells us that Jesus <strong>&#8220;did not entrust Himself to them, because He knew all people.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knew what was in every heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John then introduces Nicodemus with a simple phrase: <strong>&#8220;Now there was a man&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is no accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chapter division was added centuries later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John is intentionally connecting the passages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus knows every human heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we meet one particular heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus represents the very best of religious humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is moral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Educated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Respected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A teacher of Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Pharisee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A member of the Sanhedrin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If anyone could earn God&#8217;s favor through religious devotion, it would appear to be Nicodemus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus immediately tells him that all of his accomplishments are insufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This conversation destroys the idea that religion can save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>John 3:1-21 NASB<br>Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, &#8220;Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.&#8221; Jesus answered and said to him, &#8220;Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.&#8221; Nicodemus said to Him, &#8220;How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother&#8217;s womb and be born, can he?&#8221; Jesus answered, &#8220;Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, &#8216;You must be born again.&#8217; The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.&#8221; Nicodemus said to Him, &#8220;How can these things be?&#8221; Jesus answered and said to him, &#8220;Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. &#8220;For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the necessity of the new birth, the work of the Holy Spirit, the nature of saving faith, and God&#8217;s love demonstrated through His Son<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Teacher from heaven,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Son of Man,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the only begotten Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the Savior sent not to condemn the world but to save it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the clearest explanations of salvation found anywhere in Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Nicodemus<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike many other conversations, there are no crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No interruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just one searching man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And one patient Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus comes to Jesus at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He respectfully acknowledges that Jesus must be a teacher sent from God because of the signs He performs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before Nicodemus can ask his question, Jesus addresses the deepest need of his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confused, Nicodemus asks how an old man can be born a second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus explains that entrance into God&#8217;s Kingdom requires being born of <strong>water and the Spirit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He contrasts physical birth with spiritual birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as the wind moves invisibly while its effects are clearly seen, so the Holy Spirit works mysteriously yet powerfully in bringing spiritual life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus remains astonished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus gently rebukes him for failing to understand truths already revealed in the Old Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus then reveals His heavenly authority, declaring that no one has ascended into heaven except the Son of Man who came down from heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He points to the story of Moses lifting up the bronze serpent in the wilderness, explaining that the Son of Man must likewise be lifted up so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then comes one of the most beloved verses in all of Scripture: <strong>&#8220;For God so loved the world&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus explains that the Father gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He concludes by describing humanity&#8217;s response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some come into the Light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others love darkness because their deeds are evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue is no longer lack of revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue is the human heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-new-birth\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deep Theology of the New Birth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-nicodemus-came-at-night\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Nicodemus Came at Night<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John rarely mentions details without purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus certainly may have come at night for practical reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He may have wanted privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He may have feared criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet John consistently uses <strong>light<\/strong> and <strong>darkness<\/strong> as theological symbols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus arrives physically in the darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spiritually, he is also in darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows the Scriptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows the Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But he does not yet know the Messiah standing before him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout John&#8217;s Gospel, people gradually move either toward the Light or away from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus&#8217; journey has just begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the end of John&#8217;s Gospel, he will publicly help bury Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man who first came under cover of darkness will eventually step into the light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-you-must-be-born-again\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;You Must Be Born Again&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These may be the most important words Jesus ever spoke about salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice what He does <strong>not<\/strong> say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say: &#8220;You must become more religious.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;You must try harder.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;You must improve yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And &#8220;You must understand more.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;You must be born again.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Birth is not self-produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No infant contributes to his own birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Birth is entirely the work of another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So it is spiritually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salvation is not the improvement of the old life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is the creation of a new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is not describing reformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is describing regeneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why Christianity differs fundamentally from every religion in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religion attempts to improve sinful people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel gives dead people new life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-born-of-water-and-the-spirit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Born of Water and the Spirit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This phrase has generated centuries of discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some have connected it exclusively with baptism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others with natural birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Old Testament provides the clearest background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>Ezekiel 36:25\u201327<\/strong>, God promises: <strong>&#8220;Then I will sprinkle clean water on you&#8230; and I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Water symbolizes cleansing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Spirit brings new life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is describing one divine work with two inseparable aspects: <strong>God cleanses sinners and gives them a new heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <strong>&#8220;the teacher of Israel,&#8221;<\/strong> Nicodemus should have recognized this promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is not introducing a new idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is announcing that Ezekiel&#8217;s promised New Covenant has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-wind-and-the-spirit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Wind and the Spirit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus uses a beautiful wordplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Greek word for <strong>wind<\/strong> and <strong>Spirit<\/strong> is the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one controls the wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one fully understands it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet everyone sees its effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trees bend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leaves move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sound is heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, we cannot manipulate the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new birth is God&#8217;s sovereign work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its reality becomes visible through transformed lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True conversion always produces evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-failure-of-religion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Failure of Religion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus represents everything religion values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Morality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Respectability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus tells him that none of these qualify someone for God&#8217;s Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This would have shocked first-century Judaism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Nicodemus needed the new birth&#8230; Everyone does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus levels humanity at the foot of the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The immoral sinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The respected Pharisee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wealthy ruler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The poor fisherman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All stand equally dependent upon God&#8217;s grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-son-of-man\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Son of Man<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus calls Himself <strong>the Son of Man<\/strong>, His favorite title throughout the Gospels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This title comes from <strong>Daniel 7<\/strong>, where the Son of Man receives everlasting dominion from the Ancient of Days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It emphasizes both His humanity and His divine authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One speaking with Nicodemus is not merely another rabbi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is heaven&#8217;s eternal King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-bronze-serpent\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bronze Serpent<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus points Nicodemus to <strong>Numbers 21<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel had sinned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Venomous serpents entered the camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People were dying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God instructed Moses to lift up a bronze serpent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone who looked upon it in faith lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the simplicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They were not healed by effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not by works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not by earning God&#8217;s favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They simply looked in faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;So must the Son of Man be lifted up.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bronze serpent becomes a prophetic picture of the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cure for sin is not self-improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is looking in faith to the crucified Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-for-god-so-loved-the-world\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;For God So Loved the World&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps no verse has been quoted more often than John 3:16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet it is often misunderstood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The phrase: <strong>&#8220;For God so loved&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong> means not merely <strong>how much<\/strong> God loved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also explains <strong>how<\/strong> God loved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God demonstrated His love by giving His Son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love in Scripture is measured by sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross becomes the greatest revelation of God&#8217;s love because there the Father willingly gives what is most precious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-whoever-believes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Whoever Believes&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John never says: &#8220;Whoever behaves perfectly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor, &#8220;Whoever earns salvation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p is believing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biblically, believing means trusting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entrusting oneself entirely to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saving faith is not merely agreeing that Jesus existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is resting one&#8217;s entire hope of salvation upon Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-condemnation-and-light\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Condemnation and Light<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus explains that He did not come to condemn the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why? Because the world already stood condemned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel is not God looking for a reason to reject humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is God providing the only way to rescue humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tragedy is that many reject the rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why? Because they love darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John makes the issue moral rather than intellectual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greatest obstacle to faith is not insufficient evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is an unwilling heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>curiosity \u2192 confusion \u2192 revelation \u2192 invitation \u2192 conviction \u2192 hope<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus patiently leads Nicodemus from religious confidence to the threshold of saving faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jesus Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Teacher from heaven,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Son of Man,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the object of saving faith,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the supreme demonstration of God&#8217;s love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-nicodemus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nicodemus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He begins with sincere questions but struggles to understand spiritual truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His journey toward faith unfolds gradually throughout John&#8217;s Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He patiently exposes the inadequacy of religion while revealing the necessity of the new birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-religion-cannot-produce-spiritual-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. God&#8217;s Love Is Seen Most Clearly at the Cross<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love is measured by what God gave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-faith-means-trusting-christ-completely\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Faith Means Trusting Christ Completely<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salvation is received, never earned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-the-light-still-invites-us-today\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. The Light Still Invites Us Today<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every person must choose whether to step into the Light or remain in darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus came searching for answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He left with something far greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He discovered that the greatest problem facing humanity is not ignorance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is spiritual death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the greatest need is not better religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is new life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This conversation has echoed across two thousand years because every generation asks the same questions Nicodemus asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How can sinful people stand before a holy God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can anyone truly change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is eternal life possible?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus answers every question with Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One who came down from heaven would soon be lifted up upon a cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There, the love of God and the justice of God would meet perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The invitation remains as open today as it was that night in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not to become more religious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not merely to admire Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But to be born from above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To receive a new heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And a new future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus came under the cover of darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Light met him there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same Light still shines today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Have I simply added Jesus to my religious life, or have I experienced the supernatural new birth that only the Holy Spirit can accomplish through faith in the crucified and risen Son of God?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-suggested-reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-stand-firm wp-block-embed-stand-firm\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"3r2MkBx7U8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/how-you-live-speaks-so-loudly-we-cant-hear-what-you-say\/\">How You Live Speaks So Loudly, We Can&#8217;t Hear What You Say<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
