{"id":4104,"date":"2026-08-21T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4104"},"modified":"2026-08-09T15:35:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T19:35:00","slug":"do-not-work-for-food-that-perishes-john-6-22-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/do-not-work-for-food-that-perishes-john-6-22-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Do Not Work for Food That Perishes: The Work of God Is to Believe (John 6:22\u201329)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The miracle is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The baskets have been collected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd has gone home full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But their hunger has not truly disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next morning, they begin searching for Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first glance, their pursuit appears admirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After all, they are looking for Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus immediately exposes something deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are not seeking Him because they have understood the sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are seeking Him because they enjoyed the meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John now shifts from a miracle of bread to a miracle of revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus begins exposing the difference between <strong>using God<\/strong> and <strong>trusting God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is one of the most searching conversations in the entire Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>John 6:22-29 NASB<br>The next day the crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone. There came other small boats from Tiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus. When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, &#8220;Rabbi, when did You get here?&#8221; Jesus answered them and said, &#8220;Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.&#8221; Therefore they said to Him, &#8220;What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?&#8221; Jesus answered and said to them, &#8220;This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the difference between temporary satisfaction and eternal life, the futility of trying to earn God&#8217;s favor, and the necessity of believing in Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the One sent by the Father,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the object of saving faith,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the only true satisfaction for the human soul.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This conversation prepares readers for the Bread of Life discourse that follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The crowd that had been fed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The disciples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next day, the crowd realizes Jesus is no longer where the miracle occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowing that only one boat had departed with the disciples\u2014and that Jesus had not entered it\u2014they are puzzled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional boats arrive from Tiberias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people cross the sea to Capernaum searching for Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When they finally find Him, they ask: <strong>&#8220;Rabbi, when did You get here?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not answer their question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He answers the question beneath the question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then He gives one of the chapter&#8217;s defining commands: <strong>&#8220;Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd responds: <strong>&#8220;What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus answers with astonishing simplicity: <strong>&#8220;This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-passage\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deep Theology of the Passage<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-they-sought-jesus-for-the-wrong-reason\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">They Sought Jesus for the Wrong Reason<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is entirely possible to seek Jesus&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;for reasons that fall short of genuine faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd sought Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They crossed the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they invested time and effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus says their motives were misplaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They wanted another miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another temporary blessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They admired what Jesus could provide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They had not yet embraced who He was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John repeatedly warns that enthusiasm for Jesus is not always the same as discipleship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many followed Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Far fewer trusted Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-they-saw-the-miracle-but-missed-the-sign\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">They Saw the Miracle but Missed the Sign<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus makes a fascinating distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says they did not truly see <strong>the sign<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course they saw the miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They ate the bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They witnessed the multiplication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But they missed what it pointed toward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John consistently calls miracles <strong>signs<\/strong> because signs direct attention beyond themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine following a highway sign all day without ever arriving at the destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is exactly what the crowd had done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They celebrated the bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They ignored the Bread-Giver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-food-that-perishes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food That Perishes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus contrasts two kinds of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first nourishes the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It perishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every meal satisfies us only temporarily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every earthly achievement eventually fades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And every possession wears out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every success grows old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of these things are wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They simply cannot satisfy forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humanity often expends enormous energy pursuing what ultimately cannot last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus redirects that energy toward what endures forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-does-jesus-mean-by-work\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Does Jesus Mean by &#8220;Work&#8221;?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first glance, Jesus appears to command people to work for eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, moments later, He says eternal life is a gift the Son gives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is this a contradiction?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is using the crowd&#8217;s own language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They assume eternal life is earned through religious effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They ask: <strong>&#8220;What shall we do?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the plural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;What works must we perform?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus completely overturns their thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not provide a list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He provides a Person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-this-is-the-work-of-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;This Is the Work of God&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may be one of the most misunderstood verses in John&#8217;s Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice what He does <strong>not<\/strong> say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Perform enough rituals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Earn enough merit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Keep enough rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Accumulate enough good works.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He calls them to believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith is not another work added to a religious checklist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is the abandonment of self-reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is trusting entirely in Another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salvation is not achieved by human performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is received through faith in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-believing-is-more-than-agreement\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Believing Is More Than Agreement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John&#8217;s Gospel consistently uses the word <strong>believe<\/strong> in a rich and active sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biblical faith is not merely agreeing that Jesus existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor is it simply accepting certain theological facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To believe means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">to trust,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">to rely,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">to entrust oneself,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">to rest completely upon Christ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd wanted something to accomplish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus invites them to trust someone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-son-of-man-gives-eternal-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Son of Man Gives Eternal Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says eternal life is something: <strong>&#8220;the Son of Man will give to you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd asks what they must give.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus speaks about what He gives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace always moves from God toward humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Son of Man is not merely a teacher showing the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is the Giver of the very life humanity cannot obtain on its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-for-on-him-the-father-has-set-his-seal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;For on Him the Father Has Set His Seal&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;For on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the ancient world, a seal authenticated authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kings sealed official decrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Owners sealed valuable possessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father&#8217;s seal upon the Son declares divine approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything Jesus says&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything He does&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And everything He promises&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carries the authority of God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd need not wonder whether Jesus is qualified to offer eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father has already answered that question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-religion-versus-relationship\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Religion Versus Relationship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This brief conversation exposes one of humanity&#8217;s oldest misunderstandings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religion often asks: <strong>&#8220;What must I do?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel answers: <strong>&#8220;What has Christ done?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religion emphasizes achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel emphasizes grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Religion says: &#8220;Earn.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;Believe.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not diminish obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather, obedience flows from faith rather than attempting to replace it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good works become the fruit of salvation, not its foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-bread-of-life-begins-here\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Bread of Life Begins Here<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Jesus has not yet declared,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;I am the Bread of Life,&#8221;<\/strong> the foundation has already been laid.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd wants bread that fills the stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus offers bread that satisfies the soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The miracle of the previous day addressed physical hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conversation now begins addressing eternal hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>curiosity \u2192 confrontation \u2192 invitation \u2192 hope<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus lovingly redirects the crowd from temporary concerns to eternal realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jesus Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the One sent by the Father,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the object of saving faith,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the only source of lasting satisfaction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-crowd\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Crowd<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They continue thinking in terms of effort and accomplishment rather than faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He patiently redirects their attention from temporary provision to eternal life through Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-it-is-possible-to-seek-jesus-for-the-wrong-reasons\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. It Is Possible to Seek Jesus for the Wrong Reasons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following Christ only for blessings ultimately leaves the heart unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-temporary-satisfaction-cannot-replace-eternal-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Temporary Satisfaction Cannot Replace Eternal Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things of this world are gifts, but they cannot become our ultimate hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-salvation-is-received-not-achieved\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Salvation Is Received, Not Achieved<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith abandons self-reliance and rests completely in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-the-greatest-gift-jesus-gives-is-himself\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. The Greatest Gift Jesus Gives Is Himself<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every earthly blessing points beyond itself to the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-the-right-question-leads-to-the-right-answer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. The Right Question Leads to the Right Answer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of asking, &#8220;What must I do to earn God&#8217;s favor?&#8221; we are invited to ask, &#8220;Whom must I trust?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd crossed the sea looking for yesterday&#8217;s miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus offered tomorrow&#8217;s eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They wanted another loaf of bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He offered Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is something deeply familiar about their pursuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our hearts often drift in the same direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We ask God for health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of those requests are wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scripture encourages us to bring every need before our Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But every gift is meant to lead us to the Giver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we become more interested in what Christ can do for us than in knowing Christ Himself, we begin repeating the mistake of the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus lovingly refuses to satisfy merely our temporary desires while leaving our deepest need untouched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He invites us into a relationship founded not on performance but on trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greatest work we will ever do is the one work we cannot accomplish through effort:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To stop trusting ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And to trust completely in the One whom the Father has sent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is where eternal life begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If Jesus were to remove every earthly blessing I presently enjoy, would I still pursue Him because He alone is my greatest treasure, or have I quietly begun to love His gifts more than His presence?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-suggested-reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-stand-firm wp-block-embed-stand-firm\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"k4atFw0EkS\"><a href=\"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/repent-or-perish-luke-13-1-5\/\">Repent or Perish: Stop Comparing and Start Responding (Luke 13:1\u20135)<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
