{"id":4148,"date":"2026-08-25T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4148"},"modified":"2026-08-22T12:33:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T16:33:47","slug":"eat-my-flesh-and-drink-my-blood-john-6-52-59","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/eat-my-flesh-and-drink-my-blood-john-6-52-59\/","title":{"rendered":"Eat My Flesh and Drink My Blood: Understanding One of Jesus&#8217; Most Misunderstood Teachings (John 6:52\u201359)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Jesus&#8217; sermon continues, the tension rises dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd has already struggled to accept that Jesus came down from heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now He says something even more shocking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The response is immediate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For nearly two thousand years, these verses have been among the most debated in the New Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some have understood them almost exclusively through the Lord&#8217;s Supper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others have viewed them only as symbolic language for faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still others have rejected Christianity altogether because of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before asking what these words mean, we should first ask what they could not have meant to the people hearing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John expects us to interpret Jesus&#8217; words within the conversation already taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subject has never changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subject is faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread of Life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>John 6:52-59 NASB<br>Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, &#8220;How can this man give us His flesh to eat?&#8221; So Jesus said to them, &#8220;Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.&#8221; These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the necessity of personally receiving Christ through faith, the centrality of His sacrificial death, and His complete sufficiency to give eternal life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the sacrificial Bread of Life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the source of eternal nourishment,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the fulfillment of every sacrifice,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the only Savior through whom eternal life is possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passage points directly toward Calvary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without the Cross, these words remain impossible to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Jewish crowd gathered in the synagogue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After declaring that He will give His flesh for the life of the world, the crowd begins arguing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They ask: <strong>&#8220;How can this man give us His flesh to eat?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than softening His statement, Jesus intensifies it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He declares: <strong>&#8220;Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continues by promising that whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood has eternal life and will be raised on the last day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says His flesh is true food and His blood is true drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whoever feeds upon Him abides in Him, and He in them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, He contrasts Himself once again with the manna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel ate manna and still died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whoever feeds upon Christ will live forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-eating-and-drinking\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deep Theology of Eating and Drinking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-the-crowd-was-shocked\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why the Crowd Was Shocked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd immediately misunderstands Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They interpret His words physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This has happened repeatedly throughout John&#8217;s Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicodemus thought about physical birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Samaritan woman thought about physical water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the crowd thinks about literal eating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John repeatedly uses misunderstanding as a teaching device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus begins with earthly language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His hearers interpret it physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He then reveals a deeper spiritual reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pattern remains consistent throughout the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus-is-not-teaching-cannibalism\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Is Not Teaching Cannibalism<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For first-century Jews, drinking blood was explicitly forbidden by God&#8217;s Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leviticus repeatedly prohibited consuming blood because blood represented life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Jesus intended His words literally, He would be commanding people to violate the very Law He came to fulfill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He is using vivid covenant language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout Scripture, eating often symbolizes receiving, trusting, and participating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeremiah spoke of &#8220;eating&#8221; God&#8217;s words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ezekiel ate the scroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The imagery points beyond itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is not calling people to consume His physical body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is calling them to receive completely what His coming sacrifice will accomplish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-is-jesus-talking-about-communion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Jesus Talking About Communion?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This question deserves careful attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lord&#8217;s Supper certainly reflects these truths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bread and the cup visibly proclaim Christ&#8217;s body and blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, several observations suggest Jesus is speaking more broadly than Communion alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, the Lord&#8217;s Supper had not yet been instituted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, the entire context has emphasized believing rather than participating in a future ordinance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Third, Jesus repeatedly equates coming, believing, eating, and living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communion beautifully symbolizes what Jesus teaches here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not replace the personal faith to which He is calling His hearers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lord&#8217;s Supper nourishes believers because it continually points them back to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not create the life that only Christ Himself gives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-eating-as-faith\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eating as Faith<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the Bread of Life discourse, Jesus uses several parallel expressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier He said: <strong>&#8220;He who comes to Me shall not hunger.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And: <strong>&#8220;He who believes in Me shall never thirst.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now He speaks of eating and drinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are not different ways of obtaining salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They describe the same reality from different perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To believe is to feed upon Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To come is to receive Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And to eat is to depend upon Him as completely as the body depends upon food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith is not merely admiring Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is receiving Him as the very life of the soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-flesh-and-blood\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Flesh and Blood?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus deliberately chooses sacrificial language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the Old Testament:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sacrifices involved flesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atonement involved blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passover involved a lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now Jesus identifies Himself as the final sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His flesh will be given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His blood will be poured out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These words anticipate the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread of Life satisfies because He first becomes the Lamb of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without His sacrificial death, there is no eternal life to receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-you-have-no-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;You Have No Life&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the seriousness of Jesus&#8217; statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not present Himself as one option among many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;Unless&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christianity has always affirmed this exclusive claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Life is found only in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because God delights in excluding people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because only Christ has borne humanity&#8217;s sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cure for sin cannot be found apart from the One who died for sinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-abides-in-me\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Abides in Me&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus introduces another major theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, in John 15, Jesus will develop this idea fully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To abide means to remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To dwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And to live in continual dependence upon Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Christian life is not sustained by one moment of faith followed by self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is continual reliance upon the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as food continually nourishes the body, Christ continually nourishes the believer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-living-because-of-the-living-father\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living Because of the Living Father<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Son lives in perfect dependence upon the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believers live in complete dependence upon the Son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not merely imitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is participation in divine life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eternal life believers receive is the very life Christ shares with His people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-greater-than-manna\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Greater Than Manna<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus closes this section by returning to the wilderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The manna was miraculous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every Israelite who ate it eventually died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ offers something entirely different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread from Heaven conquers death itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The comparison is not meant to diminish Moses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is meant to magnify Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything Moses experienced pointed toward Someone greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-why-jesus-speaks-so-strongly\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Jesus Speaks So Strongly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many readers wonder why Jesus does not clarify His language sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer lies in His purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is exposing hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those seeking only miracles will stumble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those genuinely seeking the truth will continue to listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout John&#8217;s Gospel, difficult teaching separates superficial followers from genuine disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ never lowers the truth simply to keep larger crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He lovingly speaks the truth that alone gives life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>confusion \u2192 confrontation \u2192 revelation \u2192 invitation \u2192 assurance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus presses beyond superficial interest until only genuine faith remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jesus Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Bread of Life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the final sacrifice,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the fulfillment of Passover,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the continual nourishment of every believer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-crowd\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Crowd<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They continue misunderstanding Jesus because they remain focused on physical realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He lovingly points beyond physical bread to the Cross, where eternal life will be secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-christ-must-be-personally-received\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Christ Must Be Personally Received<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one lives spiritually by merely admiring Jesus from a distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-the-cross-is-central\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The Cross Is Central<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every blessing of salvation flows from Christ&#8217;s sacrificial death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-faith-is-daily-dependence\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Faith Is Daily Dependence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believers continually feed upon Christ through trusting Him and abiding in Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-religious-symbols-always-point-beyond-themselves\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Eternal Life Is Found in Christ Alone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every other source of hope ultimately fails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus knew these words would offend many listeners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He spoke them anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because He desired controversy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because He desired salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deepest hunger of the human soul cannot be satisfied by religious activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor by intellectual admiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor by occasional moments of inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Life comes only through union with Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as physical life depends upon continual nourishment, spiritual life depends upon continual dependence upon the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread of Life is not merely a doctrine to study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is a Person to receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Savior to trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Lord to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross transforms everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The flesh Jesus spoke of would soon be given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The blood He mentioned would soon be shed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread would be broken so that sinners might live forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every believer who comes to Christ receives not merely forgiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They receive Christ Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One who satisfies every hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One who conquers every fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the One who gives a life that death itself cannot destroy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Am I merely interested in what Jesus teaches, or have I personally received Him, continually feeding upon Him by faith as the only true source of life for my soul?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-suggested-reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-stand-firm wp-block-embed-stand-firm\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"PL7AC7iIlw\"><a href=\"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/if-you-live-out-your-faith-you-will-look-different-then-those-around-you\/\">If You Live Out Your Faith, You Will Look Different Then Those Around You<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
