{"id":4154,"date":"2026-08-27T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4154"},"modified":"2026-08-22T13:15:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T17:15:22","slug":"peters-great-confession-john-6-67-71","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/peters-great-confession-john-6-67-71\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter&#8217;s Great Confession: &#8220;Lord, to Whom Shall We Go?&#8221; (John 6:67\u201371)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John 6 began with thousands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It ends with twelve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chapter opened with excitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It closes with decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread of Life discourse has accomplished exactly what Jesus intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has revealed hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many followers have departed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The noise of the crowds has faded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The excitement surrounding miracles has disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only the Twelve remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now Jesus asks one of the most personal questions recorded anywhere in the Gospels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not chase the crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not soften His teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He turns toward those closest to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question He asks them eventually becomes the question every believer must answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will you remain with Jesus when following Him becomes costly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>John 6:67-71 NASB<br>So Jesus said to the twelve, &#8220;You do not want to go away also, do you?&#8221; Simon Peter answered Him, &#8220;Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. [69] We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.&#8221; Jesus answered them, &#8220;Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?&#8221; Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the difference between genuine faith and superficial discipleship, the uniqueness of Christ, and the tragedy of unbelief within the closest circle of Jesus&#8217; followers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the only source of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Holy One of God,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the sovereign chooser of His disciples,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the One who perfectly knows every human heart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passage concludes John 6 by contrasting two responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas remains outwardly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only one truly believes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Peter<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Twelve Apostles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Judas Iscariot<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After many disciples leave, Jesus turns toward the Twelve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He asks: <strong>&#8220;You do not want to go away also, do you?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wording expects no particular answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a genuine invitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus never forces discipleship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter answers on behalf of the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Lord, to whom shall we go?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he gives the reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;You have the words of eternal life.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter continues: <strong>&#8220;We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus responds with another sobering revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John immediately explains that Jesus is referring to Judas Iscariot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even among the Twelve&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One heart remains unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-peter-s-confession\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deep Theology of Peter&#8217;s Confession<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus-question\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus&#8217; Question<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice what Jesus does not ask.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say: &#8220;Will you stay because you enjoy the miracles?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or: &#8220;Will you remain because life is easier with Me?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He asks: <strong>&#8220;Do you also wish to go away?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Christian life continually presents moments of decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There comes a point when borrowed faith becomes personal faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every believer must eventually answer Christ for himself or herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents cannot answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pastors cannot answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friends cannot answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question is deeply personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will you remain with Jesus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-peter-s-remarkable-answer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter&#8217;s Remarkable Answer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter does not begin by saying: &#8220;We understand everything.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they do not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say: &#8220;We agree with every difficult teaching.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They still have much to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead he says: <strong>&#8220;Lord, to whom shall we go?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter no longer asks merely: &#8220;What do I think about this teaching?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He asks: <strong>&#8220;Where else is life found?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christian faith is not ultimately built upon understanding every mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is built upon knowing the Person who alone possesses eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter realizes there is no alternative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rejecting Jesus does not create another path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It simply leaves no path at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-you-have-the-words-of-eternal-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;You Have the Words of Eternal Life&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter understands something the departing crowds never grasped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not merely speak truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His words <strong>give life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John has emphasized this repeatedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Creation came through the Word.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The new birth comes through the Word.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Faith comes through the Word.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now Peter recognizes that eternal life itself is inseparable from Christ&#8217;s voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To reject His words is to reject life itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-believing-and-knowing\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Believing and Knowing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter says: <strong>&#8220;We have believed and have come to know.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith comes first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Understanding follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern thinking often reverses the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people say: &#8220;I will believe once I understand everything.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter demonstrates the biblical pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith opens the door to deeper knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As believers continue walking with Christ, understanding steadily grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Christian life is a lifelong journey of discovering the One in whom we have already placed our trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-holy-one-of-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;The Holy One of God&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter&#8217;s confession reaches beyond simply calling Jesus the Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The title <strong>Holy One<\/strong> appears throughout the Old Testament as a description of God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaiah repeatedly speaks of: <strong>&#8220;The Holy One of Israel.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By using this title, Peter recognizes something extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus belongs uniquely to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is set apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perfectly holy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entirely unlike every other human being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although Peter does not yet grasp all the implications, his confession points to Christ&#8217;s divine identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus-chose-the-twelve\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Chose the Twelve<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus responds: <strong>&#8220;Did I Myself not choose you?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once again John balances divine sovereignty and human responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disciples genuinely followed Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Jesus reminds them that His gracious initiative came first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No disciple ultimately boasts in discovering Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every believer gives thanks because Christ first called them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace always precedes discipleship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-one-of-you-is-a-devil\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;One of You Is a Devil&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This statement is startling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus has just heard Peter&#8217;s beautiful confession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately He speaks about Judas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because John wants readers to remember something vital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outward proximity to Jesus does not guarantee inward transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas heard every sermon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Witnessed every miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traveled with Jesus for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet his heart remained unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of Scripture&#8217;s most sobering warnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Religious activity can never substitute for genuine faith.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-judas-and-the-mystery-of-unbelief\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Judas and the Mystery of Unbelief<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice that Jesus already knows Judas&#8217; future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing surprises Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet He continues loving him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teaching him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serving him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even washing his feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ&#8217;s foreknowledge never diminishes His compassion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas&#8217; betrayal was neither accidental nor outside God&#8217;s sovereign plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Judas remains fully responsible for his choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John consistently presents both truths without contradiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-why-peter-stayed\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Peter Stayed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is worth asking what kept Peter from leaving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer is not that Peter understood everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He misunderstood Jesus repeatedly throughout the Gospels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer is not Peter&#8217;s strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He would later deny Christ three times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter remained because he had become convinced of one central truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus alone possessed eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything else flowed from that conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When understanding failed&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When circumstances confused him&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when questions remained&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter stayed because he knew the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith ultimately rests in Christ Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-john-s-beautiful-contrast\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">John&#8217;s Beautiful Contrast<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John intentionally places Peter beside Judas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both remain physically present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only one genuinely trusts Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter still has weaknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas possesses remarkable outward credentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference lies in the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Peter clings to Jesus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Judas clings to himself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One becomes the leading apostle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other becomes the betrayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contrast reminds us that Christianity is ultimately about relationship with Christ rather than external appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>departure \u2192 decision \u2192 confession \u2192 warning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shrinking crowd allows genuine faith to shine more clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jesus Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the only source of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Holy One of God,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the sovereign Lord who calls His disciples,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the One who perfectly knows every heart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-peter\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He expresses one of the greatest confessions of faith in the New Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-twelve\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Twelve<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They remain with Jesus despite unanswered questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-judas\" Jesus Alone Has the Words of Eternal Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no alternative source of salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-genuine-discipleship-perseveres\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Genuine Discipleship Perseveres<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True faith continues following Christ when others walk away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-religious-activity-cannot-replace-a-new-heart\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Religious Activity Cannot Replace a New Heart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas reminds us that outward association with Jesus is not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-christ-knows-every-heart-perfectly\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Christ Knows Every Heart Perfectly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing about us is hidden from the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John 6 ends with one question and one confession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus asks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Do you also wish to go away?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter answers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Lord, to whom shall we go?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those words capture the heart of authentic Christianity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are moments when following Jesus is difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When His teachings challenge us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When His timing confuses us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when His ways remain mysterious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At those moments, every believer must answer Peter&#8217;s question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we leave Christ&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Where will we go?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Who else forgives sin?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">And who else conquered death?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Who else gives eternal life?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Who else welcomes sinners with grace while calling them to holiness?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter did not remain because everything was easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He remained because he had discovered something infinitely greater than easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had found the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That realization continues sustaining believers today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Christian life is not built upon having every answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is built upon knowing the One who is the Answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There truly is nowhere else to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bread of Life alone satisfies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Holy One alone saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Good Shepherd alone gives eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so every generation must answer the same question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not merely whether Jesus is interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not merely whether His teaching is admirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But whether we will remain with Him when the crowds disappear and only genuine faith remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When following Jesus becomes difficult, will I measure Him by my circumstances, or will I echo Peter&#8217;s confession, recognizing that whatever questions remain, there is ultimately nowhere else to go because Christ alone has the words of eternal life?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-suggested-reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-stand-firm wp-block-embed-stand-firm\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"gJpSbJzgZd\"><a href=\"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/peter-confession-of-christ\/\">Peter\u2019s Confession of Christ: The Bold Declaration That Builds the Church<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
