Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near. Therefore His brothers said to Him, &#8220;Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing. For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.&#8221; For not even His brothers were believing in Him. So Jesus said to them, &#8220;My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune. The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil. Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.&#8221; Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee. But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret. So the Jews were seeking Him at the feast and were saying, &#8220;Where is He?&#8221; There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; some were saying, &#8220;He is a good man&#8221;; others were saying, &#8220;No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.&#8221; Yet no one was speaking openly of Him for fear of the Jews.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Brothers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John makes a surprising statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Not even His brothers were believing in Him.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These men had grown up with Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They witnessed His character every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They heard His teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet they still struggled to believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reminds us that faith is not produced merely by familiarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowing about Jesus is not the same as believing in Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The encouraging part of the story comes later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the Resurrection, several of Jesus&#8217; brothers become believers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James eventually becomes one of the leading pastors in the early church and writes the New Testament book bearing his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God&#8217;s grace continued pursuing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-public-recognition-versus-divine-mission\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Public Recognition Versus Divine Mission<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus&#8217; brothers assume that success requires publicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;If You really are the Messiah,&#8221; they reason, &#8220;show Yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their thinking reflects the values of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visibility equals influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Popularity equals success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus rejects that entire framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His mission is not to build a public platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is to accomplish redemption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout His ministry, Jesus repeatedly withdraws from crowds that want to make Him king.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He seeks the Father&#8217;s approval rather than human applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-world-cannot-hate-you\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;The World Cannot Hate You&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus tells His brothers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why? Because Jesus exposes sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Light naturally reveals darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world often welcomes messages that affirm its desires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It resists messages that call for repentance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This explains much of the opposition Jesus faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conflict was never merely political or religious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was moral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ revealed the true condition of the human heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-feast-of-booths\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Feast of Booths<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John intentionally identifies the feast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Feast of Booths (or Tabernacles) celebrated God&#8217;s provision during Israel&#8217;s wilderness journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For one week, the people lived in temporary shelters, remembering that God had faithfully cared for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was also filled with Messianic expectation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many hoped that when the Messiah came, He would reveal Himself during one of Israel&#8217;s great feasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John&#8217;s timing is therefore significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Messiah does come to the feast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just not in the way anyone expects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He comes according to the Father&#8217;s plan, not the crowd&#8217;s agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-going-in-secret\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Going in Secret<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some readers wonder whether Jesus changed His mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He first says He is not going publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later He goes privately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no contradiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus refuses the public spectacle His brothers suggest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He travels quietly because His purpose is not self-promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue has never been whether He goes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is how and why He goes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every step remains governed by the Father&#8217;s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-division-over-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Division Over Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John records that the crowds are divided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some believe He is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others accuse Him of deception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very few remain neutral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This pattern continues throughout the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus consistently divides opinion because His identity demands a response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One cannot honestly encounter Christ without eventually answering the question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who is He?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-hidden-messiah\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Hidden Messiah<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One beautiful irony fills this passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The brothers urge Jesus to reveal Himself publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet His greatest revelation will not occur through public spectacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will occur on the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world expected visible power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God displayed sacrificial love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Messiah&#8217;s glory would be revealed not by avoiding suffering but by embracing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>misunderstanding \u2192 patience \u2192 obedience \u2192 quiet anticipation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Lord of perfect timing,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Light of the world,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the Messiah whose mission follows the Father&#8217;s plan rather than human expectations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The brothers wanted Him to become famous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father wanted Him to become the Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those goals could not be accomplished the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world measures greatness by visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God measures greatness by obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus never hurried to seize opportunities the Father had not given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither did He delay when the Father&#8217;s hour finally arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That perfect balance is one of the most beautiful aspects of His earthly life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many believers struggle with timing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want answers immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doors to open quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plans to move faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reminds us that a delayed purpose is not a forgotten purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father&#8217;s timing is never late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is always perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years later, Jesus&#8217;
