{"id":4216,"date":"2026-09-08T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4216"},"modified":"2026-09-05T10:33:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T14:33:13","slug":"my-sheep-hear-my-voice-john-10-22-42","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/my-sheep-hear-my-voice-john-10-22-42\/","title":{"rendered":"My Sheep Hear My Voice: Eternal Security in the Shepherd&#8217;s Hands (John 10:22\u201342)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several months have passed since the Feast of Booths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John now moves to another important festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Feast of Dedication<\/strong>, known today as <strong>Hanukkah<\/strong>, celebrated God&#8217;s preservation of the Temple after its desecration by Antiochus IV Epiphanes in the second century BC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The feast honored the cleansing and rededication of God&#8217;s house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The irony is profound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Israel celebrates the rededication of the Temple&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The true Temple stands among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The One to whom the Temple always pointed walks through Solomon&#8217;s Portico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once again, the religious leaders surround Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once again, they ask about His identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And once again, Jesus responds by revealing far more than they expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John intentionally places this discourse during Hanukkah because the people are celebrating God&#8217;s faithfulness even as they reject God&#8217;s Son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>John 10:22-42 NASB<br>At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple area, in the portico of Solomon. The Jews then surrounded Him and began saying to Him, \u201cHow long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.\u201d Jesus answered them, \u201cI told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father\u2019s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep. My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father\u2019s hand. I and the Father are one.\u201d The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus replied to them, \u201cI showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?\u201d The Jews answered Him, \u201cWe are not stoning You for a good work, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.\u201d Jesus answered them, \u201cHas it not been written in your Law: \u2018I said, you are gods\u2019? If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be nullified), are you saying of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, \u2018You are blaspheming,\u2019 because I said, \u2018I am the Son of God\u2019? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.\u201d Therefore they were seeking again to arrest Him, and He eluded their grasp. And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He stayed there. Many came to Him and were saying, \u201cWhile John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this Man was true.\u201d And many believed in Him there.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the certainty of salvation, the identity of Christ as the Good Shepherd, His perfect unity with the Father, and His unmistakable claim to deity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Good Shepherd,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the eternal protector of His sheep,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the divine Son who is one with the Father.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passage provides one of the strongest biblical foundations for the believer&#8217;s assurance and for Christ&#8217;s deity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The Jewish religious leaders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The crowds gathered in the Temple<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>John the Baptist<\/strong> (referenced)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The believers beyond the Jordan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus is walking in Solomon&#8217;s Portico during the Feast of Dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The religious leaders surround Him and demand: <strong>&#8220;How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus answers that He already has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His words and His works testify concerning Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reason they do not believe is not a lack of evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is because they are not His sheep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then Jesus gives one of Scripture&#8217;s greatest promises: <strong>&#8220;My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continues: <strong>&#8220;I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus explains that the Father, who gave them to Him, is greater than all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then He makes one of the most extraordinary declarations in the New Testament: <strong>&#8220;I and the Father are one.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately the religious leaders pick up stones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus asks which good work deserves stoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They answer: <strong>&#8220;For blasphemy; because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus briefly appeals to Psalm 82 before again affirming that the Father is in Him and He is in the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They attempt to arrest Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He escapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus then returns beyond the Jordan where John the Baptist had first ministered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many believe in Him there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-the-shepherd-s-hands\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deep Theology of the Shepherd&#8217;s Hands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-hanukkah-and-the-true-temple\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hanukkah and the True Temple<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John rarely mentions Jewish feasts without theological purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hanukkah celebrated the purification of the Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet the religious leaders fail to recognize the One who is greater than the Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This continues one of John&#8217;s central themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Temple pointed to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The feasts pointed to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sacrifices pointed to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people celebrate the symbols while rejecting the fulfillment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John gently reminds us that religious tradition reaches its goal only when it leads us to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-if-you-are-the-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;If You Are the Christ&#8230;&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leaders ask for clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus responds that clarity has never been the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;I told you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout John&#8217;s Gospel, Jesus has declared Himself to be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Bread of Life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Light of the World,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Good Shepherd,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the Son sent from the Father,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the great I AM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His miracles have confirmed His claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue has never been insufficient evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has always been unwilling hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This theme has now become unmistakable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-you-are-not-my-sheep\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;You Are Not My Sheep&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice what Jesus does <strong>not<\/strong> say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;You are not My sheep because you do not believe.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;You do not believe because you are not My sheep.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John continues holding together the mystery of God&#8217;s sovereign grace and human responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd&#8217;s sheep hear His voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd knows them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the Shepherd calls them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd preserves them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faith is the evidence of belonging to the Shepherd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-four-marks-of-christ-s-sheep\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Four Marks of Christ&#8217;s Sheep<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus describes His sheep with remarkable simplicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First: <strong>&#8220;They hear My voice.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second: <strong>&#8220;I know them.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Third: <strong>&#8220;They follow Me.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fourth: <strong>&#8220;I give eternal life to them.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd initiates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sheep respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relationship is deeply personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christianity is not merely adherence to doctrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is knowing\u2014and being known by\u2014the Shepherd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-i-know-them\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;I Know Them&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout Scripture, God&#8217;s knowledge always implies covenant love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not merely know facts about His sheep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And their failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their joys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His knowledge is intimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unchanging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd never loses sight of a single sheep because His love never becomes distracted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-eternal-life-is-a-gift\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eternal Life Is a Gift<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;I give eternal life to them.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eternal life is never earned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never purchased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd provides what the sheep could never obtain for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This perfectly harmonizes with everything John has taught concerning grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-they-will-never-perish\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;They Will Never Perish&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Greek, Jesus uses the strongest possible negation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Literally: <strong>&#8220;They shall certainly never perish forever.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The promise could hardly be stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ&#8217;s sheep are eternally secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because sheep are naturally strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because the Shepherd is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The emphasis never rests upon the sheep&#8217;s grip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It rests upon the Shepherd&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-no-one-will-snatch-them\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">No One Will Snatch Them<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The word <strong>snatch<\/strong> recalls predators stealing sheep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus promises absolute security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the universality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not Satan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not false teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And not persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not death itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing possesses greater strength than the Shepherd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paul later echoes this truth in Romans 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing separates believers from God&#8217;s love in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-father-s-hand\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Father&#8217;s Hand<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus immediately expands the promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believers are secure in the Son&#8217;s hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then: <strong>They are secure in the Father&#8217;s hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the most beautiful pictures in Scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The believer is held simultaneously by the Son and by the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The security of salvation rests not in human determination but in divine faithfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-i-and-the-father-are-one\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;I and the Father Are One&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the greatest Christological statements in the New Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not say: &#8220;I am the Father.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father and the Son remain distinct Persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither does He say: &#8220;We merely agree.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The word <strong>one<\/strong> speaks of unity of essence and nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Father and the Son share one divine being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This becomes one of the foundational texts for the doctrine of the Trinity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The early church rightly recognized its significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So did the religious leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-they-picked-up-stones\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why They Picked Up Stones<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many modern readers attempt to weaken Jesus&#8217; claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crowd never did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They immediately understood Him to be claiming equality with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their response proves it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They accuse Him: <strong>&#8220;You&#8230; make Yourself out to be God.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice something remarkable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus never replies: &#8220;You misunderstood Me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, He strengthens His argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The charge of blasphemy arose precisely because His claim was unmistakable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-psalm-82\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Psalm 82<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus briefly quotes Psalm 82.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some misunderstand this section as lowering His claim to deity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposite is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Scripture could use the word &#8220;gods&#8221; in a limited sense for human judges representing God&#8217;s authority, how much more appropriate is the title <strong>Son of God<\/strong> for the One whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus argues from the lesser to the greater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Far from weakening His claim, He reinforces it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-father-is-in-me\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;The Father Is in Me&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus concludes with another profound statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;The Father is in Me, and I in the Father.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This mutual indwelling goes beyond agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It expresses perfect unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything the Father does, the Son does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything the Son reveals perfectly reflects the Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John has now repeatedly developed this truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unity within the Trinity becomes one of the central themes of the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-back-to-the-jordan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Back to the Jordan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John closes the chapter by bringing Jesus back to where His public ministry began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The place where John the Baptist first pointed to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people remember John&#8217;s testimony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They conclude: <strong>&#8220;Everything John said about this man was true.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a beautiful legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John performed no miracles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet everything he said pointed people to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That remains the highest calling of every believer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-shepherd-s-hands-and-the-believer-s-assurance\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Shepherd&#8217;s Hands and the Believer&#8217;s Assurance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passage has brought immeasurable comfort to Christians for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because assurance ultimately rests not in the believer&#8217;s consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in Christ&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd who calls&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keeps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd who gives life&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preserves it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd who lays down His life&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never abandons His flock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not encourage careless living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It inspires grateful obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sheep follow because they know the Shepherd loves them perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>challenge \u2192 assurance \u2192 revelation \u2192 opposition \u2192 quiet faith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more clearly Jesus reveals Himself, the more sharply humanity divides in response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jesus Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the Good Shepherd,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the giver of eternal life,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the perfect guardian of His sheep,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the eternal Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and one in essence with the Father.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-religious-leaders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Religious Leaders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They reject Jesus despite overwhelming evidence and attempt to stone Him for blasphemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-believers-beyond-the-jordan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Believers Beyond the Jordan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They receive John&#8217;s testimony and believe in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continues revealing His identity while remaining perfectly faithful to the Father&#8217;s mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-christ-s-sheep-hear-his-voice\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Christ&#8217;s Sheep Hear His Voice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Discipleship begins by listening to and following the Shepherd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-salvation-is-secure-because-christ-is-faithful\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Salvation Is Secure Because Christ Is Faithful<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our confidence rests in His hands, not ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-no-power-can-separate-believers-from-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. No Power Can Separate Believers From Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd&#8217;s protection is absolute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-jesus-is-fully-god\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Jesus Is Fully God<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His unity with the Father demands both faith and worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-5-a-faithful-witness-points-others-to-christ\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. A Faithful Witness Points Others to Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John the Baptist&#8217;s legacy reminds us that the greatest ministry is introducing people to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Few promises in Scripture have comforted weary believers more than these words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;No one will snatch them out of My hand.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice where Jesus places our confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not in our grip on Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in His grip on us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sheep are easily frightened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Easily distracted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus never says His sheep are strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says their Shepherd is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hands that hold believers are the same hands that created the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same hands that healed the blind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same hands that would soon be pierced upon the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the same hands that walked out of the tomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those hands have never failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When fear whispers that we are too weak&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd says: <strong>&#8220;I know them.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When guilt whispers that we have failed too greatly&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd says: <strong>&#8220;I give eternal life.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the world threatens&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When death approaches&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when Satan accuses&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Shepherd still says: <strong>&#8220;No one will snatch them out of My hand.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John ends this chapter exactly where every believer&#8217;s confidence should rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not in ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not in our circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And not even in the strength of our faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in the unchanging faithfulness of the Good Shepherd who is one with the Father and who never loses a single sheep entrusted to His care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When fear, doubt, or failure threatens my confidence, where do I ultimately look for assurance, in my own ability to hold on to Christ, or in the infinitely stronger hands of the Shepherd who has promised never to let me go?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-suggested-reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-stand-firm wp-block-embed-stand-firm\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"rhcjgOxEyw\"><a href=\"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/parable-of-the-lost-sheep-luke-15-3-7\/\">The Parable of the Lost Sheep: The God Who Pursues the One (Luke 15:3\u20137)<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
