{"id":4259,"date":"2026-09-20T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/?p=4259"},"modified":"2026-09-07T14:19:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T18:19:12","slug":"a-new-commandment-love-one-another-john-13-31-38","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/a-new-commandment-love-one-another-john-13-31-38\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Commandment I Give to You: Love One Another (John 13:31\u201338)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 id=\"h-the-audience-john-is-writing-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Audience John Is Writing To<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas has left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John quietly records: <strong>&#8220;And it was night.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the betrayer gone, the atmosphere changes dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From this point until Jesus&#8217; arrest, every word is directed toward His own disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John now opens what is commonly called the <strong>Upper Room Discourse<\/strong> (John 13\u201317).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These chapters contain Jesus&#8217; final private teaching before the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything He says now carries extraordinary weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He knows the Cross is only hours away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disciples remain confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fearful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unprepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not spend these final moments discussing strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He speaks about love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John wants us to understand that the defining characteristic of Christ&#8217;s Kingdom is not power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is sacrificial love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-key-focus-of-the-passage-and-jesus-character\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Focus of the Passage and Jesus&#8217; Character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus is <strong>the glory of the Cross, the new commandment of sacrificial love, and the weakness of human self-confidence apart from Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the glorified Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the perfect example of love,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the patient Teacher,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the faithful Shepherd who knows His disciples better than they know themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This passage establishes the defining ethic of the Christian community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-people-in-the-interaction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The People in the Interaction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jesus<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Peter<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The eleven remaining disciples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-happened-in-the-scene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened in the Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as Judas leaves, Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He tells the disciples that He will soon leave them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where He is going, they cannot yet follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then Jesus gives a new commandment: <strong>&#8220;That you love one another, even as I have loved you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explains: <strong>&#8220;By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter interrupts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He asks: <strong>&#8220;Lord, where are You going?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus answers that Peter cannot follow now but will follow later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter insists: <strong>&#8220;Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus responds gently but truthfully: <strong>&#8220;Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-deep-theology-of-love-and-glory\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Deep Theology of Love and Glory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-now\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;Now&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus begins with one simple word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Now&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The moment has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas has departed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The betrayal is in motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a human perspective, everything appears to be falling apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says: <strong>&#8220;Now is the Son of Man glorified.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This completely overturns human expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross is not an interruption of God&#8217;s glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is its greatest revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout John&#8217;s Gospel, glory has always pointed toward this hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now it has come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-glory-through-the-cross\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Glory Through the Cross<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world associates glory with victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Triumph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus associates glory with sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross becomes the throne from which God&#8217;s love shines most brightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John consistently refuses to separate Christ&#8217;s suffering from His glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are one event viewed from two different perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humanity sees humiliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heaven sees exaltation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-is-the-commandment-new\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Is the Commandment New?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At first glance, Jesus&#8217; command seems familiar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Old Testament already commanded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Love your neighbor as yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what is new?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus does not say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love others <strong>as yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;As I have loved you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The measure of love is no longer our natural concern for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is Christ&#8217;s sacrificial love displayed at the Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The command is new because Jesus Himself becomes both the model and the source of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-as-i-have-loved-you\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;As I Have Loved You&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pause and consider what Jesus has already done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He washed their feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He patiently taught them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And He endured their misunderstandings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He loved Peter despite knowing Peter would deny Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He loved Judas despite knowing Judas would betray Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within hours He would die for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the love Jesus commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not sentimental affection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sacrificial commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love that serves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forgives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Endures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And gives itself away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-love-as-the-church-s-witness\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Love as the Church&#8217;s Witness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus makes an astonishing statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People will recognize His disciples by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">miracles,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">theological knowledge,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">impressive buildings,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">political influence,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">or cultural success.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;By this all men will know&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The greatest apologetic for Christianity is the visible love Christ&#8217;s people have for one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the Church genuinely reflects Christ&#8217;s love, the world catches a glimpse of its Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-peter-s-question\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter&#8217;s Question<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter immediately changes the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus speaks about love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter asks about destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is understandable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter loves Jesus deeply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He cannot imagine separation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet he still misunderstands the path Jesus must walk alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross belongs uniquely to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No disciple can accompany Him there as Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-you-cannot-follow-me-now\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;You Cannot Follow Me Now&#8221;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the hope in Jesus&#8217; words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He does not say: &#8220;You will never follow.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says: <strong>&#8220;You will follow later.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter cannot yet understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But one day he will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tradition tells us Peter himself would eventually die as a martyr for Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus already sees the end of Peter&#8217;s story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter sees only the next few hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-peter-s-confidence\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter&#8217;s Confidence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter sincerely declares: <strong>&#8220;I will lay down my life for You.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His words are genuine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His confidence is misplaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter overestimates himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He underestimates the coming trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This becomes one of Scripture&#8217;s greatest warnings against self-confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most dangerous moment often comes when we believe we are least likely to fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-rooster-will-crow\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Rooster Will Crow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus predicts Peter&#8217;s denial with astonishing precision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because He delights in exposing Peter&#8217;s weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because He wants Peter to understand something later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ knew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christ loved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And Christ remained faithful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter&#8217;s failure would never surprise his Savior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor would it cancel Christ&#8217;s calling upon his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace had already anticipated Peter&#8217;s weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-difference-between-peter-and-judas\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Difference Between Peter and Judas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This chapter intentionally places Peter beside Judas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One betrays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One denies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference is not that Peter sins less seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference lies in the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judas ultimately abandons Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter returns broken and repentant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel is filled with repentant failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It contains no hopeful future for hardened unbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace restores the humble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-love-flows-from-the-cross\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Love Flows From the Cross<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is significant that Jesus gives this command immediately after speaking about His glorification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cross defines Christian love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Believers do not invent sacrificial love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They receive it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then they reflect it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything Jesus commands flows from what He Himself accomplishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel always comes before the command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace always precedes obedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-mood-and-tone\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mood and Tone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tone moves from <strong>glory \u2192 love \u2192 devotion \u2192 warning \u2192 hope<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Upper Room begins with Christ revealing the heart of His Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-jesus-reveals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jesus Reveals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus reveals Himself as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">the glorified Son,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the perfect example of love,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the patient Shepherd,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">and the Savior whose grace anticipates human weakness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-response-of-others\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Response of Others<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-peter\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He sincerely desires faithfulness but overestimates his own strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-eleven\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Eleven<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They receive the defining command that will shape the future Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-jesus\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He lovingly prepares His disciples for both the Cross and their coming failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-lesson-for-us-in-2026\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson for Us in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-1-the-cross-redefines-glory\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The Cross Redefines Glory<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God&#8217;s greatest victory came through sacrificial love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-2-christian-love-has-a-new-standard\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Christian Love Has a New Standard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We love as Christ loved us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-3-the-church-s-greatest-witness-is-love\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The Church&#8217;s Greatest Witness Is Love<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authentic Christian community points people toward Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-4-self-confidence-leads-to-failure\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Christ&#8217;s Grace Anticipates Our Weakness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our failures never surprise the Savior who calls us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-final-reflection\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is remarkable that Jesus&#8217; final command before the Cross was not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Work harder.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Defend yourselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Become influential.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Love one another.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not ordinary love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cross-shaped love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kind of love that kneels with a towel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kind of love that forgives betrayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the kind of love that serves without demanding recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kind of love that lays down its life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the atmosphere in which the Church was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not around political power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not around military strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And not around earthly prestige.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around the self-giving love of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peter sincerely wanted to die for Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within hours he would deny even knowing Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet the story does not end there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because Jesus&#8217; love proves stronger than Peter&#8217;s failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is the hope of every believer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Church is not built upon perfect disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is built upon a perfect Savior whose love restores imperfect disciples again and again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the world asks what Jesus is like&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer should increasingly be visible in the way His people love one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But genuinely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the same love that flowed from the Cross now flows through every heart transformed by the Gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If someone observed the way I love my fellow believers\u2014especially those who disappoint, disagree with, or wound me\u2014would they see a reflection of Christ&#8217;s sacrificial love, or merely the ordinary love that the world already understands?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-suggested-reading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suggested Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-stand-firm wp-block-embed-stand-firm\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"MHq0SqK4kW\"><a href=\"https:\/\/standingfirminfaith.com\/blog\/the-key-to-fruits-in-our-lives-is-a-direct-result-of-our-obedience-to-the-lord\/\">The Key To Fruit In Our Lives Is A Direct Result Of Our Obedience To The Lord<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
