Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, \u201cWhy do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don\u2019t wash their hands before they eat!\u201d Jesus replied, \u201cAnd why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, \u2018Honor your father and mother \u2019 and \u2018Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.\u2019 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is \u2018devoted to God,’ they are not to \u2018honor their father or mother\u2019 with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: \u201c \u2018These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules. \u2019 \u201d Matthew 15:1-9 NIV<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
