Parenting Through Proverbs - Bringing up Children who will glorify God

‘Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. ‘ Proverbs 22:6

One of the most significant challenges and privileges that God has allowed those who have had children is parenting. One of the most challenging things a person can engage in is parenting. As Christian, the highest goal we can set for our efforts is that our children come to know, love, and follow Jesus.

Our Pastor, Jeremy Smith, at Crosspoint Church in Northwest Florida, has been doing a sermon series on parenting called, Parenting Through Proverbs. We have had several great speakers on the subject of parenting.

My wife has asked me why I am not recapping these messages like I do for most of the other sermons. And the honest answer is that when the Lord turned my heart towards Him, our kids were grown and out of the house, and I didn’t feel qualified to add anything to their words.

I can give a lot of advice on what NOT to do.

When I look at our kids, we did the best we could with what we knew, and our kids are functioning in the world; they are gainfully employed, living on their own, and we have two beautiful grandchildren, Jimmy and Kendyl.

But we pray for their hearts every day that they come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. At this point in our lives, we can only live our lives submitted to the Lord and pray for the rest.

‘Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. ‘ John 14:11-14

I believe that they will come to know the Lord.

I believe that Jesus will answer our prayers; He says, “You may ask for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

If you are a parent or grandparent, these messages are for you. You will find the messages here:

Covered in these messages are the 4 Seasons of parenting:

  • The Discipline Years (Birth-Kindergarten) – Jared Darby
  • The Training Years (1st to 5th grade) – Jeremy Smith
  • The Coaching Years (6th – 12th grade) – Dr. Alyssa Gavulic Howk
  • The Friendship Years (18+) – future message

I pray that this sermon series will bless your heart.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the faithful preaching of Your Word. I pray, Lord, that Your Word will affect the hearts of those who hear it.

I thank You for those who have brought their children up in Your way. I pray that Your message of hope is carried forward generation after generation.

Thank You for sending Jesus to do what we couldn’t.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!!
