Colossians 3:23-24 NLT
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.
Do you feel that you are getting paid all you are worth at your job?
Is your focus on what you are getting or not getting, or is it on the quality and quantity of the work that you provide?
One of the hardest things that we can do is submit our work to the Lord.
Nothing that God does is by accident. He has created you with unique skills that will produce results to His ends when you focus energy through your expertise.
It will benefit those you serve and glorify God.
Doing this will be tricky because, to you, this skill is effortless, and in your mind, because you think it is easy, you believe that everyone can do it.
This thinking has a couple of detrimental consequences:
1. You put an unrealistic expectation on others and start to think that others don’t measure up because they can not do what you do adequately.
2. You become resentful because people will always come to you for this skill, and you think to yourself, “Why can’t you do this yourself? It’s easy!!”
When we recognize this, we need to start looking at what we are doing and creatively find ways to exercise our skills to provide the value from this activity to benefit the greatest number of people.
So, where do we start?
1. We start right where we presently find ourselves.
Recognize that what you do provides value to others. This skill is something that people come to you often for. Pay attention to this.
Be faithful when the amounts are small. Sometimes we may try to run before we can crawl.
Start with the people around you who benefit from this skill.
Matthew 25:23 NLT
“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
2. You focus on getting better at this skill and let God take care of how you get compensated.
Doing this is going to require one of the most significant leaps of faith in your life. Others will not understand what you are doing and will question your wisdom in your choices.
Please don’t take my words to go out and just quit your job and get busy with a new endeavoring.
We need to be content with where we are, while in pursuit of where we are going.
Start small and scale up appropriately.
Depending on where this message finds if you are young and you are responsible for only yourself, start early and discover this gift God has given you and leverage time to maximize your efforts to serve others.
If this message finds you a little older with responsibility for others, I still encourage you to discover this God-given talent but start smaller with your efforts and scale this up slowly or as quickly as the market accepts it.
Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the talents that You have provided for me to serve others.
Please allow me to use these skills willingly to serve those around me while realizing that You will fully and faithfully provide me with everything I need if I focus my attention and efforts on the God-given talent that You have so graciously offered me.
Above all else, let my thinking, attitudes, words, and actions glorify You in everything I do with a humble and submitted heart.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!! 🙏❤️
