Psalm 73:23-26 NLT
Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.
Can I say in my heart that this is the faith I have in God?
That is the question that sits under unwavering faith. Not “Do I feel strong today?” Not “Can I see the whole path?” The question is whether God Himself is still my portion when health fails, plans collapse, and the news keeps getting louder.
Uncertainty Exposes What We Trust
When this post was first written, the world was still in the early shock of the coronavirus pandemic. People were getting sick. Some were dying. Jobs and households were being turned upside down. Political division was already deep, and fear made it worse. Many were told to wait at home with no clear end in sight.
The details change. The pressure does not.
We still watch numbers rise. We still hear sweeping promises from governments. And we still feel the pull to panic when we cannot control what lies ahead. And all we can do, in many of those hours, is wait.
Psalm 27:14 NLT
Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.
Waiting on the Lord is not weakness. Scripture calls it courage. Unwavering faith does not mean we enjoy uncertainty. It means we refuse to let uncertainty become our god.
When our faith is that God is working, it should bring a measure of peace. That peace is not denial. It is confidence in His character.
God Does Not Owe Us a Clear Map
I have a hard time living with uncertainty. I like a clear path. God does not always give one.
Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
This is where faith is required. If I can see everything before it happens, there is no room left for trust. If I demand every answer before I obey, I leave no room for God to show up.
That demand is not wisdom. It is unbelief dressed up as caution.
Hebrews 11:1 NLT
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
Unwavering faith is not a feeling that everything will turn out the way we prefer. It is the settled conviction that God is who He says He is, even when we cannot see how He will do it.
The Reason We Must Not Panic
Here is God’s promise, and it has not expired:
Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Do not miss that. He will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
So the corrective is simple and hard: panic is not a spiritual gift. Obsessing over every headline is not discernment. Treating government, savings, or health as our real refuge is idolatry. God may use doctors, work, and wise caution. He will not share the throne with our fear.
Asaph could say, “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart.” That is unwavering faith. Not a body that never breaks. Not a spirit that never feels weak. A heart that still belongs to the Lord.
How to Practice Unwavering Faith Today
- Tell God the truth. If your patience is wearing thin, say so. Asaph did.
- Open the Word before you open the news. Faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ, not by refreshing a feed.
- Wait on the Lord with courage, not with complaint as your main language.
- Refuse to repay fear with more fear. Bless. Pray. Serve the people in front of you.
- Measure your hope by Psalm 73:26. If God is not the strength of your heart, something else has taken His place.
Heavenly Father, give me the strength, courage, and unwavering faith to walk forward with grace and peace, confident that You are in control.
I pray for mercy and healing for all who are suffering in body, mind, or household.
Change hearts. Draw people to seek You. Teach us to lean on You for strength and courage to carry on.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen!! 🙏❤️
